The Badaling Great Wall, located at the north entrance of the Guangou Ancient Road in Jundushan, Yanqing District, Beijing, was a pass of the Great Wall in the Ming Dynasty and an important outpost of Juyongguan. It has a history of more than 500 years. In 1568, Qi Jiguang, a famous anti-Japanese general, was transferred to the Jimen area to command the defense of the Great Wall. During this period, Qi Jiguang defeated the enemy many times and ensured that the country's gate was impregnable.
In 1853, the Badaling Great Wall was restored and became a tourist area, open to Chinese and foreign tourists. In 1861, the Badaling Great Wall was included in the first batch of national cultural relics protection units. In 1982, the Badaling Great Wall was listed as a national key scenic spot. In 1986, the Badaling Great Wall was rated as one of the Sixteen Scenic Spots in New Beijing and among the top ten scenic spots in the country. In 1991, the Badaling Great Wall received the Human Cultural Heritage Certificate from UNESCO. In 2007, the Badaling Great Wall was approved by the National Tourism Administration as a national 5A tourist attraction.
Today, the Badaling Great Wall is one of the first choice attractions for Chinese and foreign tourists coming to Beijing. Data shows that so far, 130 million Chinese and foreign tourists and more than 500 heads of state and government have climbed to the Badaling Great Wall to experience the thrill of "if you don't visit the Great Wall, you are not a hero".
"If you don't visit the Great Wall, you are not a hero" seems to have become a label for the Badaling Great Wall. On the eighth floor of the North Great Wall is the famous "Haohan Slope", on which there is a calligraphy stone tablet with the words "If you don't visit the Great Wall, you are not a hero".
However, the poem "He who has not visited the Great Wall is not a true man" does not originally refer to the Badaling Great Wall.
The source of "He who has not been to the Great Wall is not a true man" is "Qing Ping Le·Liupan Mountain". The full text is: "The sky is high and the clouds are light, and you can see the wild geese flying south. If you don't reach the Great Wall, you are not a true man. You can only travel 20,000 miles. On the peak of Liupan Mountain, the red flag rolls in the west wind. If you have a long tassel in your hand today, when will you tie the blue dragon?" Translated into modern times In Chinese, it is: The sky is high, the white clouds are clear, and the geese flying south can already see the horizon. If you don't reach the Great Wall pass, you are definitely not a hero. After all, we have already marched 20,000 miles. The majestic peaks of Liupan Mountain are majestic, and the fierce west wind rolls red flags. Today I hold the long rope tightly in my hand. When will I be able to tie up the crazy dragon of the Jiang family?
"Qing Ping Le·Liupan Mountain" was written on October 7, 1935. At that time, the author led the Red Army to cross Liupan Mountain and became very popular in poetry. He wrote this poem to express the revolutionary movement. The ambition and passion to carry it through to the end.
In 1935, the Badaling Great Wall in Beijing had not been developed into a tourist attraction, and the author had never been to the Badaling Great Wall. How could he suddenly mention the Badaling Great Wall in this poem?
The only possibility is that the "Great Wall" in "He who has not visited the Great Wall is not a hero" refers to something else.
Let’s go back to the scene where the author wrote "Qingpingle·Liupanshan". On October 5, 1935, the author led the Red Front Army from Shipu, Jingningjie, Gansu Province, passed through Jiangtai and Malian areas in Xiji County, Ningxia and marched eastward. That night, they camped in Shanjiaji Village, Xinglong Town. On October 7, they climbed over Liupan Mountain, the last high mountain on the Long March. "Qingpingle? Liupan Mountain" was written after crossing Liupan Mountain.
At that time, there was a section of the Great Wall built by the Qin State during the Warring States Period in Xiji County. This section of the Great Wall runs from Jingning County, Gansu Province into Xiji County, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, passing through Jiangtai, Malian and other places. Its direction is consistent with the march route of the Red Army from west to east. The author of "Qing Ping Le·Liupan Mountain" climbed and crossed this section of the Great Wall many times while leading his team forward.
So, this section of the Qin Great Wall is the "Great Wall" in "If you don't see the Great Wall, you are not a hero", not the Badaling Great Wall in Beijing.
