In ancient literature, especially after the Song Dynasty, "flapping butterflies" is a common image or scene, whether it is poetry, novels or opera painting.

Su Shi's Butterfly Loves Flowers with Butterfly Flying to the West Garden. Bloom flowers fall, lovesickness fades away. "The king's" Cold Window chain mail "has" recent love, afraid to read poetry. The image of "butterfly" in China's literature also has a special meaning, and it is also a frequent visitor in ancient poetry. In the two stories about cold food, there are "dancing to love butterflies and singing to listen to many warblers", in "Feeling before cold food", there are "lingering butterflies and sleepy warblers", and in "Sit in the Afternoon" by Fan Chengda, there are "It is better to let the butterflies fly and make a breeze", and so on.

It can be seen that "flying butterfly" not only represents love, but also symbolizes a happy result. In the novel, the "flying butterfly" as big as a fan leads Xue Baochai to Didi Pavilion, which is only the externalization of Baochai's desire for love, and also includes her hope that her love is as perfect as any little daughter.

Therefore, Lin Daiyu is not wronged in this plot. At this moment, for Xue Baochai, all her ridicule is just a kind of "revenge", which also means that Xue Baochai officially declared war on Lin Daiyu.

Xue Baochai likes Jia Baoyu very much. Compared with Daiyu's straightforward and enthusiastic love for Baoyu, Baochai's love is full of implication, low-key and introverted. She not only worships Jia Baoyu, but also loves him to the extreme.
