The translation, gist, and thoughts and feelings expressed in Su Shi's "Pomegranate"

The author of "Pomegranate" is Li Shangyin, and it was selected into the 42nd volume of Volume 539 of "The Complete Poems of the Tang Dynasty". This poem uses the technique of complex words and tautology, so that the rhythm loops and the pulse of the words is melodious.

Original text of the work:

"Pomegranate" The pomegranate branches are graceful and the pomegranates are numerous and the pomegranates are light and bright. The green peach tree in Yaochi is enviable, with green peach cheeks lasting a thousand years.

Vernacular translation:

The pomegranate branch has a beautiful appearance and abundant fruits. The pomegranate skin is light and transparent, and the fruit is fresh. How can we envy the green peach trees in Yaochi, the residence of the Queen Mother? It takes three thousand years for green peaches to bear fruit, and another one thousand years for them to mature into red peaches.

Theme of the work:

This poem uses the contrast between pomegranate and peach to express his pursuit of a love that is close to reality.

Thoughts and feelings:

Pomegranate, a flower brought back by Zhang Qian from the Western Regions, blooms in May, metaphorizing love and symbolizing having many children. The first two lines of this poem praise the purity and beauty of pomegranates, which makes one feel the spring breeze blowing upon one's face when reading them. However, the following verses lament the perishability of beauty in the world. Just like the girl in manuscript clothes, even if she is a little happy, she is just holding flowers and smiling. Even if she is as beautiful as a peach and plum, she is still unable to compete with the swords and swords of wind and rain. Beauty grows old easily, but old dreams are hard to retain. "Peach blossoms and red cheeks for a thousand years" expresses the poet's dreams and desires.

All the beautiful things in the world are short-lived. Only the poet's immortal poems, and only the sincerity and beautiful emotions hidden deep in the heart can really "keep the peach cheeks red for a thousand years"!
