Li Shangyin, a famous poet of the Tang Dynasty, once wrote a poem about Camellia oleifera: "The aroma is nourishing and the taste is refreshing, and a cup of it rushes out of Anchangchun".
Emperor Yongzheng of the Qing Dynasty went to Wuzhi to inspect dangerous construction work on the Yellow River. Wu Shilu, the magistrate of the county, offered camellia as a gift. Yongzheng was overjoyed with the meal and praised "Huaiqing's camellia is as moist as crisp, and the delicacies of mountains and seas are incomparable"
