What kind of poem is Farewell to Dongda:

"Farewell to Dong Da" is composed of two poems:

"Two Poems of Farewell to Dong Da" by Gao Shi of the Tang Dynasty

Thousands of miles of yellow clouds in the white sun, and the north wind blows The wild geese are snowing one after another.

Don’t worry, there will be no friends in the future. Who in the world doesn’t know you?

Liu Fei fluttered and felt sorry for himself. He left Beijing and Luo for more than ten years.

My husband is poor and lowly, so there is no money for drinks when we meet today.

Many people are only familiar with the first song, because "Don't worry, there will be no friends in the future, and no one in the world will know you" is an eternal famous saying. In fact, these two sentences have already jumped out of Gao Shi's works and exist independently. They are full of the heroic spirit of "I walk alone in the world and vow to shock the world".

However, if we want to understand the meaning of the original poem, we can only remove the spirit and emotion added by later generations of literati and return the verses to the work, in order to correctly understand Gao Shi's poetic meaning.

"Dong Da" is Dong Tinglan. Because she is the eldest in the family, she is called "Dong Da". People in the Tang Dynasty like to commensurate their rankings. He was a famous luther player in the Kaiyuan and Tianbao periods of the Tang Dynasty. He was from Longxi and compiled "Da Hu Jia" and "Xiao Hu Jia".

During the Tianbao period, he was unable to achieve his goals and wandered around, often in poverty and lowly situations. After traveling to the Liang and Song Dynasties with Li Bai and Du Fu, he did not continue to travel far and temporarily settled down in Songzhou, farming, woodworking, and reading, waiting for the opportunity.

In the spring of the sixth year of Tianbao, Fang Guan, the official minister, was demoted from the court, and his retainer Dong Tinglan also left Chang'an. In the winter of this year, Gao Shi and Dong Tinglan met in Suiyang and wrote "Two Poems on Farewell to Dong Da".
