Dance drama consists of several elements, the most important of which are characters, events and conflicts. As a combination of dance, drama and music, ballet has a long history in China.
As an independent art form, China Dance Drama appeared in 1930s. In a sense, after the introduction of "foreign art" and the exploration of pioneers of new dance art such as Dai and Liang Lun, a relatively complete art of China national dance drama has been formed.

Since the late 1950s, the creation of China's dance drama has entered its first glorious period. The dance vocabulary of "Lotus Lantern" combines China folk dance and traditional opera dance, and by drawing lessons from the western, especially the former Soviet Union, it is integrated into a form of expression, thus "establishing a relatively complete style of China classical national dance drama". Zhao Qing's outstanding artistic creation in Lotus Lantern established her important position in the development history of China dance drama.
