Weibei Weihe River

Weihe River, the name of water, was called Weishui in ancient times and Huaihe River in ancient times (different from Huaihe River in Jiangsu). At present, some residents in this basin still call it Huaihe River. Originated in Wuji Mountain of Juxian County, it flows upstream through Juxian County, Yishui and Wulian, enters Weifang City from the north of Wulian, flows through Zhucheng, Gaomi, Anqiu, Fangzi and Hanting, and enters Laizhou Bay of Bohai Bay in Xia Ying Town of Changyi City. The main stream is 246 kilometers long, with tributaries 143, among which the larger tributaries are Weiwen River and Yunhe River. With a total area of 6,376 square kilometers, the Weihe River Basin is the mother river of Weifang. Zhongxiashan Reservoir is the largest reservoir in Shandong Province.

The record of Weihe River was first found in Shangshu Gong Yu: Wei Zi Qi Road in the Warring States Period, which simply recorded the names of Weihe River and He Zi, but did not record their origins. Weihe River originated from the hometown of Liu Xie, a famous literary theorist and author of Wen Xin Diao Long-at the foot of Wushan Mountain (also known as Wushan Mountain, Wushan Mountain, etc. ) The northern part of Dashenzhuang, Juxian County, Shandong Province, was inhabited by ancestors as early as the Neolithic Age. The Han Dynasty was a county town. "Water Classic Note" said: "Water comes out of Weishan in Langyaji County (now Juxian County, Shandong Province)." Hence its name (Weihe River). The name of Weishan is also explained in detail in Huainanzi: "Weishan, named Wu Ji, named Floating Zhoushan, and Gai Sanshan." In Hanshu, Wei was written as Huai, commonly known as Huai River. Xu Shen said in Shuowen in the Eastern Han Dynasty: "Evil Mountain comes from Wei River". "Taiping Universe" says: "Weishan, which lives in the northeast of the county, is the source of Wei water, leaving the county for 83 miles, and the northeast flows into Zhucheng County", following the theory of water mirror. "Qi Cheng" in the Yuan Dynasty reads: "Weishan in Jixian County, now Qingfeng Mountain, lives in the north of the state." Qing Qianlong's "Shandong Tongzhi" contains: "Wei River originates from Wuji Mountain in the northwest of Juzhou and flows through Gujicheng in the northeast." The Records of Laizhou Prefecture during the Qianlong period of Qing Dynasty recorded: "Huaihe River is the Wei River." Thus, the name of Weihe River was finally determined. Today, people along the upper reaches of Weihe River are still used to calling it Huaihe River, and there are village names of South and North Huaihe Rivers on the bank of Qiangkuang Reservoir, so it is called "Upper Huaihe River and Lower Weihe River". According to the above records, there was the saying of "Wu Jishan" first, then "Weishan" and then "Wu Jishan". Up to now, the county annals through which the Weihe River flows record the birthplace of the Weihe River, all referring to Weishan, Jishan or Wuji Mountain in the north of Juxian County.

The name of Weishui has been decided, and the place names related to Weishui have also been determined one after another. The alluvial plain (Changwei Plain) formed in the lower reaches of Weihe River, and a county in the west where Weihe River flows is called Weixian (now Hanting). It can be seen that Weixian appeared after the formation of the ancient Weihe River. At that time, the nearest city to Weihe River was Weixian rather than Changyi. Because of the demand for water, the ancients lived along the river. Unfortunately, at that time, human's ability to control nature was limited, so that the river was gradually leveled by alluvial mud, stone and sand, and then flowed to the surrounding low-lying places to form a new river. This is also the reason why we often say "thirty years in Hedong, thirty years in Hexi". To tell the truth, the river always changes because the riverbed becomes higher, which makes us change from Hedong people to Hexi people, instead of saying that we often walk back and forth on both sides of the river. The ancient Weihe River was originally in the eastern suburb of Wei County, which is the closest to Wei County. Later, the river changed constantly, and it was closer to the territory of Changyi. The last river course of Weihe River in the west of Changyi City flows through Mengjiawazi, Shijiawazi, Nantan Pavilion, Dabaozi, Xiajiashui, Gongjiashui, Sunjiawa, Shiqiao and Xiqiao in Changyi. Shi Qiaocun in Longchi is named after a stone bridge on the tributary of Weihe River. The ancient Weihe Road changed back and forth in the fields between Changyi and wei county (Hanting). Finally, it could not find a suitable low-lying road and had to turn to the east of Changyi, thus forming today's Weihe River.
