How should azaleas be watered

azalea

We have all heard a very beautiful and moving song called "Single Yingying Red". But few people know why there is a song called Yingshanhong, so Bian Xiao will tell you, because this song is written from the heart with azaleas all over the mountain, also known as Yingshanhong. Rhododendron was recorded in Shennong Herbal Classic in Han Dynasty. Not only in the Han Dynasty, but also in the Song, Ming and Qing Dynasties, it can be seen that rhododendrons are very popular and even recorded for thousands of years.

Rhododendron is difficult to grow, and some flower lovers can't grasp the key point of watering rhododendron. Rhododendrons love water, and there is a saying that rhododendrons can't drown. Rhododendron obviously consumes more water than other flowers, which may be related to its strong transpiration ability.

On the south windowsill of a room with heating in winter in the north, a small tree with a crown width of 30 cm has a basic balance of water every day 100ml. There was once a pot of azaleas that was kept in a tray for three years. If you sit in a basin and supply water, it will probably rot if you switch to other flowers, but the azaleas are ok. But now we don't water it like this, but we water it from above every day. Because of the circulation of fresh water, the oxygen content is definitely higher and the salt can be washed away. Don't worry about too much water, too much water will flow away from the loose substrate.

Rhododendrons are not afraid of spraying water. In order to prevent dehydration and promote it to adapt to the new environment as soon as possible, rhododendrons are often sprayed several times a day, and no adverse reactions have been found. Rhododendron in normal growth has resistance to low humidity environment, and the indoor humidity in the north is small, but as long as the soil is kept moist and no water is sprayed for a long time, no bad phenomenon is found.

The damage of water with high hardness and high PH value to rhododendron is chronic and will not cause short-term damage, but watering rhododendron with high hardness water for a long time will eventually lead to death. There are many ways to soften acidified water. It took a while. It was too much trouble. Now I use oxalic acid instead.

Ensuring adequate water supply is the most important step in raising rhododendron, which is easier said than done. When the newly bought azaleas are dehydrated, the flowers are sensitive and show up first, which leads to the overall wilting. After watering thoroughly, most of them can recover the next day (in cold winter, flowers that have been slightly frozen and wilted after entering the room often cannot recover, so just pick them). Leaves are slower than flowers, and symptoms are also slower. When they wilt, it shows that dehydration is quite serious and has threatened life.

If azaleas are planted in a tall flowerpot with a lot of fillers at the bottom, it will be difficult to keep water supply, and the water in the tray will not be sucked up. It may be necessary to water it every day, which is difficult for beginners because they are afraid that water will rot their roots.

Improper management of domestic rhododendron sometimes leads to chronic dehydration and wet soil, but it will still wilt. At this time, it means that the root system has lost its function. This situation is often due to poor soil quality or improper fertilization, which is difficult to recover.

No matter what method is adopted, the goal is the same. The roots of rhododendron need both water and air, and will grow well in a humid and breathable soil environment.
