Yazhai lay listening to Little Zhu Xiao, suspecting that it was the voice of the people's sufferings.
Some small collectors in Caozhou County always care about their feelings.
When I was resting in the yamen, I heard the rustling of bamboo leaves, as if I heard the complaints of the hungry and cold people. Although we are only small officials in the county, every little thing of the people is affecting our feelings.
This poem was written by Zheng Banqiao when he was the magistrate of wei county, Shandong Province in the 11th and 2nd years of Qianlong (1746- 1747). In the imperial examination era, people who passed the same exam were called the same year, and the same year of their parents or fathers was called Nianbo. The governor of the Qing Dynasty was also called Zhong Cheng, and "big" meant respect. Zheng Banqiao once painted a picture of wind and bamboo, and this poem was inscribed on this picture.
