Appreciation: This poem reads like a nostalgic work in old age, but in fact Wang Shizhen is only 25 years old. 10 years ago, he went to Jinan to try boy scouts (the "lake" in the poem refers to Daming Lake). At this time, he lived in Beijing and was going to take the court exam. From teenager to teenager, 10 was mostly lost on the road of imperial examination. Generally speaking, Wang Shizhen's experience is really admirable, but he was deeply disappointed with the loss of 10. There may be factors of the times-for the Han literati who took the imperial examinations in the early Qing Dynasty, there has always been a bitter taste in their hearts, but this worry and sadness about self-loss and this sensitivity to the sense of self-powerlessness in reality are historically related to the awakening of self-consciousness since the late Ming Dynasty. Just like a poet who accepts reality, his sensitivity cannot be expressed in sharp words. What is more telling is Wang Shizhen's masterpiece Four Poems of Autumn Willow (one year earlier than the previous one), which was written at a gathering of celebrities in Jinan in the autumn of the 14th year of Shunzhi. This poem eulogizes the autumn willow on the Daming Lake in Jinan, but from the beginning, it has been implicated in "Baixia", that is, Nanjing. As the capital of the Six Dynasties, Nanjing not only became the traditional object for poets to lament the rise and fall after the Tang Dynasty, but also was the capital of two special periods, the founding and the fall of the Ming Dynasty (the fall of the Hong Guang Dynasty in the southern Ming Dynasty was usually regarded as the symbol of the Ming Dynasty), and it was also a prosperous place in the past. In this poem, what is written is the disappearance of beautiful things related to Autumn Willow and the deep disillusionment caused by it. This sense of disillusionment, set off by allusions such as "I'm not familiar with Huang Qi's songs" and "Night Village in the South of the Yangtze River", is regarded as the past tense or the sorrow of history. And beautiful words and images, full of musical flowing rhythm, reduce the stimulation of this disillusionment to people's hearts and turn it into beautiful sadness.
