Hanshan, or Hanshanzi, whose real name is unknown, was born and died in the Tang Dynasty, about 734-834, and lived for 100 years. He was born in the countryside near Xianyang, Shaanxi Province, while farming and studying. However, he was repeatedly put down in feudal examinations, ridiculed by the secular, and left out by his wife. Left at the age of 30 and wandered around.
