How did the ancients talk about autumn?

This week I have selected three poems related to autumn. I hope you like them.

Autumn darkness in the mountains

Tang Wangwei

After the new rain in the empty mountains, autumn comes late.

The bright moon shines among the pines, and the clear spring rocks flow upward.

The bamboo noise returns to Huan Nu, and the lotus moves off the fishing boat.

Let the spring fragrance rest at will, and the kings and grandsons can stay.

Translation:

1. Ming (míng): sunset, it will be dark.

2. Empty Mountain: Empty, empty mountain wilderness. New: Just now.

3. Bamboo noise: There is laughter and noise in the bamboo forest. Huàn 女: A girl who washes clothes. Huan: Wash clothes.

4. Randomly: let it be. Chunfang: spring flowers and plants. Rest: dissipate, disappear.

5. Wangsun: Originally refers to the children of nobles, but later also refers to people who live in seclusion. Stay: live.

The empty mountains are bathed in a new rain, and the fall of night makes people feel that it is early autumn.

The bright moon shines clear light from the gaps in the pines, and clear spring water flows on the rocks.

The noisy sound in the bamboo forest is thought to be the return of the washer girl, and the swaying of the lotus leaves is thought to be wandering up and down the boat.

You might as well let the fragrance of spring fade away, but the kings and grandsons of the mountains in autumn can stay for a long time.

Appreciation:

This is a landscape pastoral poem by Wang Wei, which depicts the scenery in the evening after the autumn rain clears. Returning from the National Day holiday, we can best understand that "after the new rain in the empty mountains, the weather will come late in autumn", and people immediately have more clothes on their bodies. It's a pity that I can't experience the poet's feeling of the bright moon shining in the pine forest, and the clear spring water and rainwater flowing over the stones.

In the last sentence, Wang Wei said that if the fragrance of spring dissipates, Wang Sun (referring to himself here) can stay on his own. I think this kind of mountain life is quite pleasant. It can be regarded as a little spiritual entertainment for myself in the busy city life.

Tianjingsha·Autumn Thoughts

Yuan Ma Zhiyuan

Withered vines and old trees, dim crows,

Little bridges and flowing water, people’s houses,

Westerly wind and thin horse on the ancient road.

The sun sets in the west,

The heartbroken people are at the end of the world.

Translation:

1. Tianjingsha: the name of the song.

2. Withered vine: withered branches and vines. Dusk Crow: A crow at dusk.

3. Family: farmhouse.

4. Ancient road: an ancient and desolate road. West wind: cold, bleak autumn wind.

5. Heartbroken person: describes a person who is extremely sad and grief-stricken. Here it refers to a traveler who wanders around the world and is extremely sad.

Withered vines twine around the old trees, and crows returning to their nests at dusk are perched on the branches.

Under the small bridge, the water is gurgling, and there are several families next to it.

On the ancient and desolate road, the autumn wind was bleak, and a tired and thin horse carried me forward.

The setting sun slowly sets to the west, and the extremely sad traveler is still wandering at the end of the world.

Appreciation:

This is a Xiaoling composed by Ma Zhiyuan, a composer of Yuan Dynasty music. It is a famous Sanqu work. Xiaoling has only five sentences and 28 words. The language is extremely concise but has a huge capacity. Reading this poem is like watching a painter painting a Chinese painting. A few simple strokes of outline show a wandering and miserable feeling. This song is praised by later generations as "the ancestor of Qiu Si".

Magnolia · Naigu Jue Ci Cambodian Friends

Qing Nalan Xingde

If life is just like the first sight, why is the autumn wind sad and painted on the fan.

It is easy to change people's hearts, but it is easy to change people's hearts.

Lishan’s words are gone till midnight, and the tears and rain are still ringing, but I still don’t complain.

How lucky I am to be a man in brocade, I wish I could have the same wings and branches.

Translation:

1. Magnolia: the name of the word brand.

2. "What's the matter" sentence: Use the allusion of Ban Jieyu's abandonment in the Han Dynasty. Ban Jieyu was the imperial concubine of the Han Dynasty. She was slandered by Zhao Feiyan and retired to the cold palace. Later, she wrote a poem "Song of Resentment", using an idle autumn fan as a metaphor to express her resentment of being abandoned. The poem "Ban Jie's Concubine" by Liang Liu Xiaochuo of the Southern and Northern Dynasties also pointed out that "the concubine's body is like an autumn fan", and later the autumn fan was used to describe the woman who was abandoned. This means that we should be in love with each other, but instead we are separated from each other.

3. Old friend: refers to lover.

4. The two sentences "How": adapted from the poem "Mawei" by Li Shangyin of the Tang Dynasty, "How can I be the emperor in the fourth century, and I am not as good as the Lu family who have no worries". Bo Xing: Bo Qing. Jinyilang: refers to Emperor Ming of the Tang Dynasty.

Getting along with the person you love should always be as sweet, warm, affectionate and happy as when you first met. But you and I should have loved each other, but why have we become separated from each other today? Now it is easy to change your heart, but you say that it is easy for lovers to change their hearts.

You and I are just like Emperor Ming of the Tang Dynasty and Yang Yuhuan. We made a life-or-death vow in the Palace of Eternal Life, but in the end we made a decisive separation. Even so, there is no grudge. But how can you compare with the Tang Minghuang back then? He still had a vow to be a winged bird and to connect a branch with Yang Yuhuan.

Appreciation:

This is a resentful poem, which describes the resolute breakup between a woman who was hurt by love and the man who hurt her. It borrows allusions about the abandonment of Ban Jieyu in the Han Dynasty and the love story between Tang Minghuang and Yang Yuhuan to create a resentful, sad and desolate artistic conception.

I hope that all lovers in the world will never use the phrase "If life is just like the first time we met, why is the autumn wind sad to draw a fan?" I hope your love is stronger than gold and surpasses countless people in the world.
