When did the whole-petal double-petal camellia begin?

Qiantang Wu recorded in Meng Lianglu that the varieties introduced and cultivated in Lin 'an (now Hangzhou) in the Southern Song Dynasty included parallel tea, emerald tea, chiba tea and autumn tea. "Qingkou Tea" is named for its silvery red color and flower shape. "Jade tea" means jade tea. "Autumn tea" refers to camellia that blooms in autumn. Here I want to talk about "Chiba Tea" in particular. This "Chiba tea" refers to the completely petaled double petalled camellia. In the pattern of complete double petals, there are many petals, and the stamens are completely petaled into petals, which gradually become smaller from the outside to the inside, and are regularly overlapped to form radial, hexagonal, imbricate, star-shaped, spiral and spherical shapes. This flower pattern is not easy to pollinate and bear fruit, and it is also difficult to cultivate with advanced technology. This is a typical pattern of camellia in China. In the Ming Dynasty, Wang recorded 28 camellia varieties in Qunfangpu, including "Chiba Red, Chiba White, etc., with different leaves and yellow leaves, countless". The "Chiba White" here is all kinds of completely double-petalled Chiba tea. The white flowers in Chiba are white, with 8 ~ 10 layers, and the center of the flowers is occasionally very pale yellow. 1 1 blooms, and can bloom in March of the following year. Wu Yankuan's History of Flowers records the flower shape of Chiba White: "Chiba White has five petals under it, and the inner petals are like peony flowers". Chiba White, also known as Dabai and Guanyin White, is called "Nanjing White" in Japan, and once ranked second in the American camellia appraisal. Chiba White is also the first famous variety introduced into Europe from China. /kloc-In the 9th century, the white mountain tea that Margaret, the heroine in Dumas' masterpiece La Traviata de France, often drank was this kind of Chiba white. With the performance of La Traviata opera, Chiba Bai caused a sensation throughout Europe. A few years ago, a camellia variety called "beautiful and elegant white gear" was introduced from the United States. It is white, with yellow in the middle and serrated petals. This variety is a bud variety of Chiba White. This proves that Wang said more than 400 years ago that the white flowers in Chiba are yellow and reliable. In the Ming Dynasty, a completely double-petal variety called "Zhubaocha" was mentioned many times. Zhu Baocha by Zhang Xin, a poet of Ming Dynasty, wrote that Zhu Bao, a camellia, was the top grade: "Rouge dyed a crimson skirt, amber put a ruby plate." Li Shizhen's "Compendium of Materia Medica" contains in the Camellia Department: "Those who cherish pearls are the best." The gardener Wang Shimao's Miscellaneous Learning Garden also says "Camellia on our land is precious". Wang's "Qunfangpu" has a detailed description of the form of "tea": "Tea is clustered in Chiba and its color is dark and thin". The poet Zhang Xin's poem Zhu Baocha is red. He used the words rouge, crimson and red. Wang's "Qunfangpu" wrote: "White calyx is like a treasure, and its heart is white." It can be seen from here that there are two varieties of ancient "Zhu Baocha", one is called "Hongbaozhu" and the other is called "Zhu Bao with burnt calyx". "Zhu Bao" is not only the name of camellia, but also the flower name. Zhu Bao type is the general name of ancient camellia types in China. At present, the international classification of camellia patterns still follows the ancient classification of China. For example, in Japan, the spherical shape is simply called "China type" (Japanese is "Tang Ziyun" and English is Anemae Form) (Pulsatilla pattern). It can be seen that the classification of camellia types in ancient China has long been quite detailed and clear.
