Tang Dynasty poet Lu wrote a classic poem, "Why don't you give up your life if you win a game?" Lu described this pair of Yuanyang as a kind of beautiful love, preferring to be an ordinary couple with the beloved rather than envy the gods in the sky. After this poem, Yuanyang, as a symbol of love, was imitated by later literati.
According to legend, more than 2,000 years ago, a doctor in the State of Jin, a gardener named Qiu Ge, passed by the lotus pond and found that Hongpu's daughter had fallen into the lotus pond. Qiu Ge went into the water to save people. When Hongpu saw this scene, he mistakenly thought that Brother Complain was flirting with his daughter in the water, so he put Brother Complain in prison. Hongpu's daughter secretly visited her ugly brother and gave him a colorful coat.
Hongpu was very angry when he found out, so he put Brother Qiu to death in the lotus pond. Hongpu's daughter also jumped into the pool and died of double suicide. After that, their souls became two birds, one colorful and the other unpretentious. They always love each other in pairs.
