Before 1970s, citrus was exported to the former Soviet Union and Southeast Asian countries, which was very popular. 1990 was designated as a special fruit for athletes by Beijing Asian Games.
Dried lotus root is a traditional specialty of Ouhai, which was listed as a tribute by the court in the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. Its cultivation history is about 2400 years. In the Song Dynasty, it was mainly planted in Shui Xin, Wuqiao and Nantang, and then gradually expanded to Sanyo, Wutian, Nanbaixiang and Chashan. Therefore, the ancients had a poem, "Wan Lin orange tree, no lotus, no water".
