Begonia argentea, also known as Begonia equisetifolia, is a perennial herb of Begonia in Begoniaceae. It is a fibrous begonia, a hybrid of white begonia and rich begonia. The stems are semi-lignified, erect and hairless, with a height of 60- 120 cm. The leaves are obliquely ovate, the apex is acute, and the edges are serrulate. The leaves are green with silvery white spots; The back of the leaves is red. Flowers are large, white to pink, axillary with short stems, and bloom in July and August.
The propagation methods of Ginkgo Begonia mainly include sowing, cutting and rootstock cutting. Seed propagation is a common method in introduction, variety improvement and large-scale commodity production at home and abroad. Its main advantages are high propagation coefficient and cultivation of new varieties. Seeding and propagation can be carried out indoors or in greenhouse, and conventional introduction and sowing should be in April-May in spring or 9- 10 in autumn. Because the seeds are small, be careful when sowing. Cutting can adopt stem cutting, leaf cutting and rhizome cutting.
Rootstock transplantation is suitable for begonia with dense roots. Cut the low roots into 3-5cm sections in spring and autumn, insert them obliquely or lay them flat on the sand bed, and keep the room temperature at 20-22℃. Generally, adventitious roots will grow in 0/5-20 days after transplanting, and adventitious buds will germinate in 30-40 days. When several leaflets are formed, they can be moved into small pots for maintenance.
