What is the origin of the word "Tianya Haijiao" in Sanya, Hainan?
Tianya Haijiao Scenic Area is located at the foot of Xiamaling Mountain in Tianya Town, about 23 kilometers away from downtown Sanya, with unique scenery. In the tourist area of Bulun, a pair of blue-gray boulders with a height of 10 meters and a length of more than 60 meters rise from the beach, which is impressive. The two stones are engraved with the words "Tianya" and "Cape" respectively, meaning the edge of the sky and the end of the sea. "Tianya Haijiao" got its name from this. According to records, the word "Tianya" was written by Cheng Zhe, the magistrate of Yazhou in Yongzheng period of Qing Dynasty. The strange stone "Tianya Haijiao" and "Nantianyizhu" each have a touching story. Legend has it that a pair of lovestruck men and women came from two feuding families, and their love was opposed by their own people, so they were forced to flee here, and they both jumped into the sea and turned into two huge stones, facing each other forever. Later generations carved the words "Tianya" and "Cape" to commemorate their faithful love. Later, men and women often used "the ends of the earth will always follow" to show their intention.
