Even if there are flowers and a moon, it’s a shame to have no wine and no one.

The green robe is like grass that grows every year, and the white hair is like silk.

I want to chase the storm thousands of miles away, but I don’t know the way to Longjin. Spring, expressing feelings, melancholy and unfulfilled ambitions Translation and annotations

Translation

The ups and downs of the world change in an instant, but I sat at home for four years.

Even though there are flowers and the moon, no one recommends me.

The green robe of the eighth-rank official remains the same every year, but the white hair on his head becomes more and more dazzling.

I want to chase the wind and waves for thousands of miles, but I don’t know which way to see Long Yan! Appreciation

The first and second sentences say that the ups and downs of the world are changing very quickly, but I have been in decline for half my life. I have been hiding in Qiuyuan for about four years, and I feel very uncertain about my official career. The third and fourth sentences say that although there are many flowers in the Qiu Garden, the family is poor and has no wine to soothe their worries, and no friends to comfort them. After three years of mourning in Beijing, Yang Bianping moved to Yongle after four years. He was still the official name of Mi Province and was not promoted. Moreover, he met Ding You, so it is said that "every year is determined". The fifth and sixth antithetical couplets, "green robe like grass" and "white hair like silk", not only complement each other in color, but also reflect the low rank of officials and the growing size of their heads; the green grass and silk are both signs of decline and rustiness; "Year by year" means that one year passes without any sign of change; "every day is new" means that the days disappear quickly and the hair on the temples turns white day by day. One "fixed" and the other "new", reflecting the dynamic. It is said that there is no way to advance in officialdom and there is no way to promote, so in the end I lamented "I don't know how to get to Longjin".

The whole poem is purely composed by the method of contrast. The first couplet leads with two questions: personnel and flowers. "Rong Luo" can refer to people or flowers. The poet first compares "the world" with "I", and then writes about his lonely life trapped in his home due to mourning. The couplets describe the scenery while also showing boredom, and he inherited the five traces. In the Tang Dynasty, officials of the eighth and ninth ranks wore blue robes. The poet thought of his own green robe of the ninth rank from the luxuriant spring grass in front of him. This is a clever metaphor for the scenery, and the "green robe" and "white hair" are in contrast. "Nian Nian Ding" means that he has been a subordinate for a long time, and the overlapping words of "Nian Nian" and "日日" further complement the meaning of contrast. The fifth sentence is sentimental about the passage of time. "Longjin" means Longmen, and the last couplet means that he wants to make a difference in politics, but laments that no one has introduced him. It expresses the poet's hope for the future. Creation background: Tang Wuzong came to the throne, Li Deyu, the leader of the Li Party, became prime minister. Li Shangyin returned to Beijing and still served as secretary of the province. In the second year of Huichang (842), Li's mother passed away. After four years of mourning, he returned to Beijing in the autumn of the fifth year of Huichang and still occupied his old position of Jiupin. Before returning to Beijing, he wrote a poem "Spring Day" to express the depression and hope in his heart. He was thirty-five years old. Li Shangyin, also known as Yishan, nicknamed Yuxi (Xi) Sheng and Fan Nansheng, was a famous poet in the Tang Dynasty. His ancestral home was Qinyang, Hanoi (now Jiaozuo City, Henan Province), and he was born in Xingyang, Zhengzhou. He is good at poetry writing, and his parallel prose is also of high literary value. He is one of the most outstanding poets in the late Tang Dynasty. Together with Du Mu, he is known as "Xiao Li Du", and with Wen Tingyun, he is known as "Wen Li". Cheng Shi and Wen Tingyun have similar styles, and they are all ranked sixteenth in their families, so they are called the "Thirty-Sixth Body". His poems are novel in conception and beautiful in style, especially some love poems and untitled poems, which are sentimental, beautiful and moving, and are widely read. However, some poems are too obscure and difficult to understand. There is a saying that "poets always love Xikun and hate that no one writes Zheng Jian." Because he was caught in the partisan struggle between Niu and Li, he was very frustrated in his life. After his death, he was buried in his hometown Qinyang (now the junction of Qinyang and Boai County, Jiaozuo City, Henan Province). The works are included in "Li Yishan's Collected Poems".

Li Shangyin The silver candles point toward the sky and the purple road is long, and the spring color in the forbidden city is bright and clear. Thousands of weak willows are hanging green, and hundreds of chirping orioles are everywhere. The silver candles pointed towards the sky and the long purple road, the spring scenery in the forbidden city was bright and clear.

Thousands of weak willows are hanging green, and hundreds of chirping orioles are all over the building.

*** On the Muenbo Fengchi, Chaochao Ranhan served the king. In spring, I write about returning home happily at dawn in the King's Palace. Hangover and sleepy clouds.
