Horse early sketch
He has long observed and studied the dynamics of horses' muscles, bones and facial expressions. As early as when I was studying at the Paris Higher School of Fine Arts, I often went to the racecourse to draw sketches and study the anatomy of horses, and accumulated thousands of manuscripts. This laid a solid foundation for his later creation of horses in various postures. Xu Beihong himself said: "I love painting animals. I spent a long time on physical objects, that is, I wrote no less than 1000 sketches on horses, learned the anatomy of horses, became familiar with the skeletal muscle tissues of horses, and then carefully examined their dynamics and expressions." Therefore, it is easy to grasp the fleeting dynamic expression, skillfully use the large-angle perspective that predecessors dare not dabble in, and create a brand-new artistic image.
Because Xu Beihong often draws horses, he is biased against horses.
Love. With the horse, listening to the sound of hooves and watching the horse gallop in the wind, he felt it was a spiritual enjoyment. His heart seems to run with the horse. Liao recalled in Biography of Xu Beihong that the coachman was a kind old man who rode a carriage in Chengdu. He likes horses and keeps them well. He raised his whip, and the old chestnut horse raised its beautiful hoof and galloped forward happily. Xu Beihong likes to treat horses like this. Xu Beihong got off the bus and the driver was busy preparing water and feed for the horse.
"Card, this is for you." Mr. Xu Beihong suddenly said to the coachman, take out a folded horse-running map from his handbag. He painted this only last night.
The coachman raised his wrinkled forehead in disbelief and squinted at Xu Beihong as if he didn't understand him.

"Grandpa," Liao explained aside, "this is a painting for you." The coachman's muddy eyes suddenly lit up. He took the photo in both hands and repeatedly said, "Thank you, thank you." The driver's eyes were wet with tears. "I met a good man. This morning, I saw a magpie flying to my window. I thought, maybe something happy will come, but as a poor old man, what else can I have? " "Now, it's really working," he nagged again, pulling up the cuff of his left arm with his right hand and wiping the tears from his cheeks.

Mr. Xu Beihong held the coachman's rough hands and said goodbye again and again before leaving him.
"Sir, why do you suddenly want to give an unknown coachman a picture? Besides, he doesn't know who you are. Are you a little too generous? " Liao asked him in surprise.
He replied very gently, "Because I love horses, and I love people who are good at waiting on them." You didn't see this coachman. He can handle horses very skillfully and treat them as his family. His love for horses touched my heart and moved me, not to mention the hardships of his life! "Listen to Mr. Xu Beihong, I am also very touched.
Mourning for Xu Beihong 1942
Horses can best reflect Xu Beihong's personality and express his thoughts and feelings. Xu Beihong's horse is loved by people. In addition to his efforts, what is more important is the feelings he put into it. He turned this feeling into a spirit and expressed it with horses as the carrier.
In the eyes of China people, horses have always been a symbol of talent and national passion. Xu Beihong, who is obsessed with reality, painted horses again and again just because he felt something and expressed his mind. Xu Beihong's horse never wears a reins, but in the nine-square-high picture, the black mare wears a reins exceptionally. Someone asked Hong Bei why, and Hong Bei replied with a smile: "Horses, like people, are willing to be used by confidants instead of being used by fatuities."
Xu Beihong painted horses not only for general viewing, but also to express his unspeakable grief and patriotic feelings and worries about the world. 1932, the "November 28th Incident" broke out in Shanghai, and the Route Army stationed in Shanghai 19 and the people of Shanghai rose up to resist Japan. Xu Beihong was inspired by patriotic enthusiasm. I drew a horse with my head held high, and named it "independence", which expressed my hope that the motherland would be independent and strong, and made people excited. 1935, Xu Beihong painted a picture of running horses, which said, "What will you do if you reach the end of the world? It is useless to be sad and competitive. " Worrying about the country and people is beyond words. His "Hush Horse Map" depicts a horse's front hoof leaping in the wilderness, and is accompanied by a poem entitled "Sorrow, indomitable spirit". He also painted a galloping horse that died in the Long March, eagerly expecting the Chinese nation to wake up and save itself. The noble sentiment he expressed through the image of the horse and the connotation he endowed in his works of art became the spiritual force to inspire people.
1949, when new China was founded, Xu Beihong drew a galloping horse called "Running towards the Sun". During the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, he painted "Running Horse" for the volunteers and personally wrote a warm letter. 1On September 26th, 953, Xu Beihong died of recurrent cerebral hemorrhage due to overwork. In the first half of this year, he painted two historic "Running Horse", one of which was dedicated to President Mao Zedong, entitled "One Hundred Years of Suffering, Seeing the Light at First", expressing his love for the * * * production party. The title of another painting is "Mountains and rivers return to democracy after hundreds of battles, and the rugged road has been leveled", which is the painter's correct understanding of new China and his lifelong pursuit of ideals.
