The background before Li Qingzhao wrote this poem was that the Song Dynasty was experiencing a great disaster: the Shame of Jingkang. The couple also fled with the large army. In order to escape, the couple abandoned most of the treasures they had collected and took only part of them with them. After escaping to Jiangnan, her husband received important treatment.
But then the Jurchens began to attack the city, and a rebellion broke out in the territory that Zhao Mingcheng was responsible for. Zhao Mingcheng did not have much to deal with. When the rebels arrived, he ran for his life in a hurry, even forgetting his wife. .
After Zhao Mingcheng left, the deputy general led the army to put down the rebellion. After this incident, Zhao Mingcheng was also held accountable by the court. Seeing her husband's cowardly performance, Li Qingzhao lamented her husband's incompetence, so he wrote this eternal poem.
