Located in the hinterland of Chaidamu Ghost Town, Ya Dan Ghost Town is one of the top ten most beautiful Ya Dan landforms in China. The southwest is close to Wutumeiren grassland, the north is hilly natural area, and it is surrounded by barren and endless desert Gobi. The lake where the ghost town is located is like a pearl dotted in the desert, and the mound standing on the lake is like a fleet about to go out, ready to go, just waiting to be summoned.
For thousands of years, the originally flat lakeside platform has been wantonly cut by strong winds, and the trench cut by the wind has turned into a Gobi desert in the sand sea, while the remaining earthen platform has formed a ridge with the wind. The ridge is low in the south and convex in the north, just like a whale swimming in the sea to expose its back. This is the so-called whale-backed Ya Dan landform.
