Xingtai earthquake monument is located in the south of the site. Its structure is a reinforced concrete cylinder with two colors of Taishan red granite as a square cone. It stands on a foundation 30 meters wide, 35 meters long and 1.32 meters high. The height of the monument is19.66m, like that of the earthquake 1966. There are ribs on both sides of the monument that imitate the word "man", which shows the strong will of the people in the disaster area that "man can conquer nature". On the front of the monument, there are seven gold-plated Chinese characters inscribed by President Li Xiannian. On the back of the monument, the striking Chinese character 16 is engraved with the disaster relief policy of "self-reliance, hard struggle, development of production and reconstruction of homeland" put forward by Premier Zhou Enlai during his inspection of the disaster area.
Monument seat 1.4m high, 8.2m square, surrounded by grass Bai Yushi. There is an inscription on the front, and three groups of line carvings of Meng Nan, rescue and reconstruction are engraved on both sides and back respectively.
Right in front of the platform is a step with a width of 10 meter, which is divided into two sections. The first section is of magnitude 3 and the second section is of magnitude 8, symbolizing the1March 8, 966 earthquake. The other three sides have 12 steps, symbolizing support from all directions.
In front of Xingtai Earthquake Monument, flowers are blooming and pine and cypress are flourishing. There is a seismic data exhibition hall behind the monument, an artificial lake between the monument halls and a bridge pavilion across the lake.
The completion of Xingtai Earthquake Monument is a deep memory and comfort to the compatriots killed in the earthquake, a true record of this natural disaster, and has left valuable information for future generations to study the laws of earthquakes.
With the attention of Longyao County Party Committee and government, Xingtai Earthquake Monument was repaired, and the wide square attracted many passers-by to stop and watch.
