Background

Zhao Kuangyin rebelled against Chen Qiao and established the Song Dynasty. This made him physically and mentally vigilant, so he formulated an important national policy , depreciating the participation of military men in politics, establishing a political system of scholar-bureaucrats, and appointing civil servants as governors across the country.

The country had to employ so many civil servants at one time, and the Song Dynasty inherited the long-term wars of the Five Dynasties. Most people did not like to read, and even fewer were good at reading. Therefore, in order to implement the established national policy, the imperial court must, on the one hand, widen the channels for scholars to become officials, and on the other hand, do its best to promote the culture of reading.

Zhao Heng, Emperor Zhenzong of the Song Dynasty, personally wrote the "Li Xue Pian", which spread throughout the world. This short chapter has fascinated scholars all over the world for nearly a thousand years.
