For many years, I have never forgotten my first literary teacher. It was 1948 when I was in the second grade of junior high school at Tongshi Affiliated High School. After the school started, a new teacher who was very popular came into our Chinese class. After he said hello to his classmates, his opening remarks shocked all the students. He said that there are "three peaks" in the Chinese literary world, and then wrote the names of these "three peaks" on the blackboard: Hu Feng, Xuefeng, and Tian Xiufeng. When the students were puzzled, he told them bluntly: "You must have heard of the names of Hu Feng and Feng Xuefeng - I am Tian Xiufeng who followed them." This is the first time in my student career that I have encountered a teacher who shows off his personality so openly. But it was this informal teacher who gave me the spark of literature and allowed me to embark on the path of literature without hesitation.
