Su Dongpo’s “Return to Hermitage”

? When it comes to Su Dongpo, everyone is familiar with it. He was a great poet and lyricist in the Song Dynasty, as well as a Confucian scholar. He passed the imperial examination in his 20s and served as an official in several places. Later, because someone slandered Su Shi to the emperor, Su Shi was imprisoned for 103 days. This is the famous Wutai Poetry Case in history. After the incident, Su Shi was demoted to Huangzhou and started another life.

? After he stayed in Huangzhou for a period of time, he left a famous poem:

? The meaning is probably this: In the dead of night, Su Shi was by the Yangtze River. Got drunk and fell asleep. After I woke up, it was already midnight before I remembered to go home. But the servants and bookboys in the house were asleep, snoring loudly. Since you can't open the door, go for a walk outside. I always hate myself for being homeless, this body is no longer mine. Everything you do is meaningless, either for this or for others. Taking advantage of the late night, calm wind, and flat river waves, I boarded a boat and disappeared, wandering around the rivers and lakes to live in seclusion for the rest of my life.

In fact, when Su Shi did not go home that night, he was not only looking for the vitality of nature, but also looking for his inner voice, the voice deep in his soul. Su Shi was already in his 40s at the time. He also had his political ideals, but they were never adopted and reused. Su Shi was a man who passed the imperial examination and served as an official, but was later demoted. With such ups and downs in life, Su Shi must have suffered a painful blow. Therefore, Su Shi was a little wavering in his ideals and confidence. He didn't want to live like this anymore. It felt meaningless and caused huge problems. So she wanted her people to live happier lives and live their own wonderful lives in another way, so she had the idea of ??going into seclusion.

? But we all know that Su Shi did not go into seclusion later. How to explain this?

? Confucius created Confucianism during the Spring and Autumn Period. Although Confucianism is very good, no one can understand it. Everyone is mocking him and slandering him. He once said something:

? (The first sentence was said by Confucius, the second sentence was said by Li Bai, the third sentence was said by Du Fu, and the fourth sentence was said by Tao Yuanming)< /p>

? These four sentences have the same theme, and they are all said in the direction of "returning to seclusion". However, there are some differences between them. The first three sentences (by Confucius, Li Bai, and Du Fu) talk about how they originally had a very good ideal, but when they couldn't achieve it, they had the idea of ??going into seclusion, but they did not go into seclusion in the end. . The last sentence (said by Tao Yuanming) has no "ambition" of his own at all. He was originally heading in the direction of returning to seclusion, and he had no intention of achieving a goal or anything.

? Tao Yuanming did go into seclusion, but the first three did not do what the poem said. In fact, Tao Yuanming is a typical Taoist, while the first three are Confucianists. So since there is no seclusion, why do you still say this? What does Confucianism want to give up and what does it take?

? A true Confucian can give up all fame and interests, but will never give up. What he must acquire is his inner benevolence. With benevolence, he must extrapolate, but he will definitely encounter experienced many hardships and blows. It is because of benevolence that Confucians cannot retreat to the mountains and forests. What they say is just a temporary thought and certainly cannot be truly implemented (in that case, it would not be Confucianism). The reason why Taoists can retreat to the mountains and forests is that they do not need to be extrapolated by people's minds, nor do they need to do such big things. They must always keep their hearts quiet, stop thinking wildly, stay away from the outside world, and live by doing nothing. Confucianism has a mission and ideals that must be achieved, so they must stick to their essence and live in "troubled times".

? Confucians also have the idea of ????retirement when they are lonely, but because of their mission and benevolence, they cannot go back to seclusion. They have been living in this world and rushing forward non-stop towards their goals.
