Zhongwei is located in the middle and west of Ningxia, which goes deep into the mainland, connects Gansu in the west and Inner Mongolia in the north, and belongs to a temperate arid climate zone. From June 5438 to February 2003, the State Council approved the revocation of Zhongwei County (changed to Zhongwei shapotou district) and the establishment of prefecture-level Zhongwei. Since ancient times, Zhongwei has advocated Confucianism and Chongwen. There are many kinds of mineral resources in Zhongwei, with abundant reserves, including more than 30 kinds of coal, gypsum, clay, dolomite, oil, gold, copper, aluminum and zinc. Gypsum reserves reach 7 billion tons, ranking second in the country, and coal resources are the richest, with a distribution area of nearly 200 square kilometers and a total reserve of 654.38+0.2 billion tons. Excellent water resources. The Yellow River passes through the city182km, with a hydropower reserve of more than 2 million kilowatts. This is a good place for hydroelectric power generation. After Shapotou Water Control Project and Daliushu Water Control Project are completed, Zhongwei will become an important hydropower base in northwest China.
Zhongwei has convenient transportation, where Baolan, Ganwu, Baozhong Railway and Taizhongyin Railway under construction meet. Yingshuiqiao railway marshalling yard in the western suburb of Zhongwei is one of the largest railway marshalling yards in Asia under planning. Passenger transport can go directly to eight capital cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Xi, Lanzhou, Xining, Chengdu, Hohhot and Urumqi. National Highway 109, Provincial Highway 20 1 and four expressway crisscross. The Sino-British expressway, which is about to start construction, and Shapotou Airport, which has already started construction, have established Zhongwei's position as an important transportation hub city in northwest China. Zhongwei is the third largest railway transportation hub in northwest China, the most convenient high-speed land passage from Xinjiang and Hexi Corridor to the eastern region, and the distribution center of people flow, logistics and information flow.
Zhongwei enjoys the benefits of gravity irrigation of the Yellow River. Zhong Ling is beautiful, rich in natural resources and outstanding. Since ancient times, it has been an important production base of commodity grain, livestock products, aquatic products and fruits and vegetables in the northwest, and is known as "Jiangnan" and "Land of Fish and Rice". Nowadays, modern agriculture is developing in the direction of high-quality intensification, and has formed advantageous and characteristic industries such as Lycium barbarum, protected vegetables, watermelon planting, poultry breeding, grass and livestock, potatoes, high-quality rice, pigs, aquaculture, jujube fruit, etc. It enjoys the reputation of "the hometown of Lycium barbarum in China", "the capital of Lycium barbarum in the world", "the first city of pressed sand and selenium melon in China" and "the first city of raising chickens in the west" in China. With its unique advantages in resources, location and transportation, modern industry has developed vigorously, forming advantageous industrial clusters such as papermaking, brewing, agricultural and sideline products processing, metallurgy and chemical industry, building materials, machinery manufacturing, electric energy and so on, and cultivating and strengthening advantageous backbone enterprises such as MCC Murray Paper Group, Ningxia Xiahong Group, Ningxia Power Generation Group Zhongning Branch and Marseille Cement Zhongning Branch, and 72 enterprises above designated size in the city.
