Looking up at the stars, I know quite well looking up at the stars
That, for all they care, I can go to hell,
But on earth indifference is the least But we don’t have to be afraid at all in this world
We have to dread from man or beast. The indifference of man or beast.
How should we like it were stars to burn If the stars burn with the passion to care for us,
With a passion for us we could not return? But we cannot repay, what should we do? Thoughts?
If equal affection cannot be,
Let the more loving one be me. Let me become a more loving person.
Admirer as I think I am Although I consider myself an admirer of the stars,
Of stars that do not give a damn, they don't care,
I cannot , now I see them, say Now I see the stars, but I can't say it,
I missed one terribly all day. Say I missed one star all day long.
Were all stars to disappear or die If all the stars disappear or die,
I should learn to look at an empty sky I should learn to look up at an empty sky,
And feel its total dark sublime,
Though this might take me a little time.
