1. "Dwelling in the Mountains in the Dark Autumn" by Wang Wei of the Tang Dynasty
After the new rain in the empty mountains, autumn comes late.
The bright moon shines among the pines, and the clear spring rocks flow upward.
The bamboo noise returns to Huan Nu, and the lotus moves off the fishing boat.
Let the spring fragrance rest at will, and the kings and grandsons can stay.
Translation: The empty mountains are bathed in a new rain, and the fall of night makes people feel that it is early autumn. The bright moon sheds clear light from the gaps in the pines, and clear spring water flows on the rocks. The noisy sound in the bamboo forest is thought to be the return of the washer girl, and the swaying of the lotus leaves is thought to be wandering up and down the boat. The fragrance of spring may as well be allowed to fade away, but the kings and grandsons of the mountains in autumn can stay for a long time.
2. "Autumn Night Song" by Wang Wei of the Tang Dynasty
The autumn dew of the Gui soul is slight when it is born, and the light ruffles are already thin and have not been changed.
The silver zither has been played diligently for a long time at night, but I am timid and cannot bear to return to the empty room.
Translation: When the moon first rose, the autumn dew had already faded, and I was wearing a thin Luo Yi without changing any other clothes. During the long night, I played the silver zither affectionately. I was afraid of staying alone in an empty room and couldn't bear to go inside to sleep.
3. "Midnight Autumn Song" by Li Bai of the Tang Dynasty
There is a moon in Chang'an and the sound of thousands of households pounding their clothes.
The autumn wind never blows away, but there is always love between the two.
On what day will the barbarians be pacified? The good man will stop his expedition.
Translation: The autumn moon is bright, the city of Chang'an is bright, and the sound of pounding clothes can be heard from every house. No matter how the autumn wind blows, the sound of the anvil cannot be exhausted, and the sound always concerns the lover of Yuguan. When will the Hulu be pacified and my husband no longer serve as a soldier on expeditions?
4. "Ascend the Xie Tiao North Tower in Xuancheng in Autumn" by Li Bai of the Tang Dynasty
The Jiangcheng is like a painting, with mountains at dawn and a clear sky.
The rain catches the bright mirror, and the rainbow falls on the twin bridges.
The crowds are cold, the oranges and pomeloes are cold, and the old sycamores are in autumn colors.
Who reads the North Tower and feels grateful to the Duke in the wind.
Translation: The city by the river was as beautiful as in a painting. When the mountains were getting darker, I climbed up to the Xie Tiao Tower and gazed into the clear sky. Wanxi and Juxi are like bright mirrors surrounding Xuancheng, and the two bridges of Fenghuang and Jichuan are like rainbows falling into the world. The thin cold smoke rising from the villages lingered among the oranges and pomelos, and the sycamore trees were already withered in the deep autumn colors. Who else but me would think of coming to Xie Tiao North Tower and thinking about the poet Xie Gong of the Southern Qi Dynasty in the autumn wind of Xiao Sa?
5. "Autumn Poems" by Liu Yuxi of the Tang Dynasty
Since ancient times, autumn has been sad and lonely, and I say that autumn is better than spring.
A crane flies above the clouds in the clear sky, bringing poetry to the dark night.
Translation: Since ancient times, people have lamented the loneliness and desolation every autumn, but I say that autumn is better than spring. In the clear autumn sky, a crane pushed away the clouds and soared into the sky. My poetry followed it into the blue sky.
