Viewing the Sea is selected from Yuefu poetry anthology. This poem was written on a whim by Cao Cao in the 12th year of Jian 'an (AD 207) when he marched to the seaside, passed Jieshi Mountain and climbed the mountain to watch the sea and returned to his hometown.
