Elizabeth bishop (1911-1979) is one of the most important and influential American poetesss in the 20th century. 19 1 1 was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, USA. 1934 After graduating from Vasa College, his life in new york literary circle laid the foundation for his career. After that, he and his college classmate Louis Crane lived in Kivisto Island in South Florida for five years. She spent most of her life traveling, divorced from American cultural life. 1950 settled in Brazil. Finally, I returned to Massachusetts, lived in Boston and taught at Harvard University. 1979 died suddenly at the age of 68.
? He has won Pulitzer Prize, Guggenheim Prize and National Book Award.
Paris Review interviewed her at the age of 67.
Paris Review: Can I write while traveling?
Bishop: Sometimes, it depends. I usually take notes, but not necessarily. I write something like a diary. My two favorite trips, one to the Amazon, and the other to the Galapagos Islands three or four years ago … I really want to go to Italy again, because I can't get enough of it. And Sicily. Venice is great. I think Florence is very difficult. The last time I went to Italy was in 1964, with a Brazilian friend. We rented a car and spent five or six weeks in northern Italy. We didn't go to Rome. I must go again. There is so much to see. I prefer painting to poetry. I haven't been to Paris for years. The price is too expensive!
……
She said that the literary creation class
Bishop: When I was studying in Vasa, I took literature classes from 16 to 18 century, and then novels. In this class, you must read a lot. I don't believe that writing can be taught at all. I didn't have creative writing class when I was studying, but I only had poetry writing class at night, but it didn't count as credits. A few friends have been there, but I haven't.
She once wrote a six-stanza poem about a woman who watched soap operas all day.
Bishop: It seems very popular at Harvard. Two or three years ago, I taught a composition class and found that students watched soap operas every morning and afternoon. So I also watched two or three episodes and wanted to know what to see. It is so boring. There are commercial advertisements! A student wrote a short story about an old man inviting an old lady to his house for dinner (she is actually a ghost). When preparing, he polished the plate so brightly that he could see his face. The student's writing is not bad. I watched part of the class and said, "However, it is impossible here. I can't see my face on the plate. " The whole class said, "Yi Jie!" I said, "What? What are you talking about? " There used to be an advertisement for an easy-to-clean detergent that a housewife could pat her face with a plate-do you know that advertisement? Even so, it is still impossible! I feel very annoyed. What is shown on TV is true, and no one notices what is false. It's like people used to think that everything Aristotle said was right, but for hundreds of years no one pointed out that women have no fewer teeth than men.

Insomnia elizabeth bishop
The moon in the dresser mirror.
Look at Wan Li.
(Maybe with pride, look at yourself.
But she never, never smiled)
Go to a place away from sleep, or
She may be the one who sleeps during the day.
Abandoned by the universe,
She would tell the universe to go to hell,
She'll find a bay of water,
Or a mirror, living on it.
So wrap your troubles in a spider web.
Go deep into the well.
Into an upside-down world.
There, the left is always the right,
Shadows are actually entities,
Where we stayed up all night,
There, heaven is like
Now the ocean is deep,
You love me too.
