About the author: Zhang (1672—1755), whose real name is from Tongcheng, Anhui. Zhang Ying's second son, a college student. In the thirty-ninth year of Kangxi (1700), he was a Jinshi, changed to Jishi Shu, was given a review, and entered the South School. Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty served as the left assistant minister of punishments, and Yong Zhengdi served as the minister of rites, the minister of household affairs, the minister of official affairs, the university of Baohe Hall (cabinet records) and the minister of military aircraft.
Creative background: During the reign of Kangxi, Zhang was a newcomer in official career. One day, he strolled around the Great Wall in Wan Li. When he was bored, he wrote a poem and wrote it on the wall. Later, Kangxi came here to inspect and happened to see graffiti on the wall, which was very shocking. However, Emperor Kangxi was not angry with the depressed sentences in his poems, but convicted Zhang. Instead, he declared loudly in public that the Great Wall would never be built in the Qing Dynasty, and then he increased the use and promotion of Zhang. This allusion is known as a beautiful historical story. It can also be seen that, to a certain extent, Emperor Kangxi may be more generous than many Han emperors, and his self-confidence made him not engage in literary inquisition because of such poems. Presumably, Emperor Kangxi has also deeply realized that no matter how strong the Great Wall is, it is not to consolidate the foundation of a nation, but more importantly, the national spirit.
