The origin of reading festival

April 23rd every year is World Reading Day. World Book Day, the full name of World Book and Copyright Day, is also a popular festival. The origin of World Book Day is related to a Spanish legend.

Legend has it that there was a beautiful princess in Catalonia. One day, the princess was trapped in the mountains by a dragon. Warrior George went to the deep mountain alone and found the trapped princess. After some fighting, George defeated the dragon and successfully rescued the princess. The princess gave George a book as a gift. Since then, the book has become a symbol of courage and strength. The day when the princess was rescued was later called "St. George's Day". Residents of Catalonia, on April 23rd every year, a woman will give her husband a book and a man will give her a rose in return. Later, UNESCO designated April 23rd as "World Reading Day".

Every year on Reading Day, more than 100 countries in the world hold various publicity activities about reading to encourage people to read.
