During the Jian 'an period, due to the preference and advocacy of Cao Cao and his son, many outstanding poets gathered around them, such as RoyceWong, the most accomplished "seven sons of Jian 'an". On the one hand, they draw lessons from Han Yuefu to describe social unrest and people's livelihood sufferings, on the other hand, they eulogize their own political ideals and ambitions, forming a tragic and bold, vigorous and simple and natural poetic style, which is called "Jian 'an Style" in later generations. Their creation generally adopts five-character style, which lays a solid foundation for the development of five-character poetry.
On the one hand, the formation of Jian 'an's poetic style is directly related to the secular feelings of "the world is in chaos, the wind is declining and the customs are resentful". The impassioned feelings and heroism in their poems can be said to be the true embodiment of the spirit of that era; On the other hand, the natural and naive aesthetic taste in their poems is not unrelated to their uninhibited character.
There is an anecdote in Shi Shuo Xin Yu Regret for the Past about Emperor Pi's funeral for the great poet Wang Shen. Because Wang Shen liked to listen to donkey barks before his death, Wendi asked his men to learn donkey barks to see the poet off. Even when the emperor xelloss is so relaxed and casual. As for Cao Zhi, the founder of Jian 'an, and the literati around Cao Cao and his son, it is not difficult to imagine. It is this unruly character that "produces a large number of articles that you can say whatever you want", which is reflected in poetry creation. Whether it is emotions or impassioned, the poet's feelings are sincere, delicate and natural. Cao Cao's "Short Songs" and Cao Zhi's "White Horse Pieces" can be used as evidence.
