Cicero was born in a knight's family in albion, southeast of Rome. He received the best education in Rome at that time, and then went to Greece to study for two years. In addition to visiting famous teachers in Athens, he also went to Asia Minor and Rhode Island like Caesar, continued to learn speech skills, and sought advice from the famous rhetorician Moran, and began to form his own speech style. After Sura's death, Cicero returned to Rome and became active in the political arena. With his own efforts and speech skills, he gradually won the appreciation of the nobility and the support of ordinary people, and became the most outstanding orator at that time. In 63 BC, Cicero was elected consul. During his tenure, he exposed Catiline's conspiracy and won the title of "Father of the Nation", which reached the culmination of his political career. After Caesar's assassination, Cicero stood on the side of Octavian and the Senate, and delivered speeches one after another, lashing out at Anthony. After Octavian reconciled with Anthony, Cicero became the first victims of persecution and was killed by Anthony in February 65438+43 BC.
As an orator and prose writer, Cicero left a large number of prose works, speeches and letters, which became the glorious legacy of ancient Roman literature. Cicero fully absorbed the achievements of Greek culture, combined with the needs of his own speech, and formed his own unique style of "paying attention to the combination of meticulous processing and natural fluency, balanced writing structure, beautiful vocabulary, rigorous syntax and sonorous rhyme". Therefore, his style is called Cicero style, which represents the highest level of Roman literature and is regarded as a model of Latin literature by later generations. He can skillfully combine satire, metaphor, contrast, synonyms with very concise, vivid, beautiful and moving words, making his speech ups and downs compact, like a mountain flowing water, cheerful and clear, magnificent and magnificent. Therefore, whenever he appeared in the court, Senate and public places in Shandong to give a speech, he always got cheers from the audience. He appealed to the audience to be warm and friendly, to attack their political opponents sharply and rudely, and to speak in a light and fluent manner. Although form is inevitable, it is obviously very effective in stimulating the mood of the audience. He thought that the speech was mainly to impress the audience's feelings, not appeal to reason's judgment, so he did not hesitate to distort or even fabricate the facts. His speech style was regarded as a model by some later writers. It is precisely because Cicero developed his speech style to perfection that he had a certain influence on the development of Latin prose and Latin language. His works have far-reaching influence not only in Italy, but also in Britain, France and other countries. Cicero is worthy of being a master of language in the cultural history of Western Europe.
