There is a poem that describes the coming of a heavy rain, and the feeling of it coming.

A poem describing the coming heavy rain: "The dark clouds turned over the ink but did not cover the mountains." It means: the dark clouds surge up, just like ink pouring down, but they reveal a section of mountains on the horizon, bright and fresh. It comes from "One of Five Drunken Letters at Wanghulou on June 27th" written by Su Shi of the Song Dynasty.

This poem is about what I saw while riding a boat. The poet wrote about a changing storm very vividly. He was sitting on the boat. The boat was just rowing to the Wanghu Tower, when suddenly a black cloud surged up in the sky in the distance, like a pot of ink spilled, and half of the sky was darkened instantly. This black cloud is moving straight towards the lake without any bias, describing a feeling of rushing towards the face.

Original poem:

"Five poems written by Drunk at Wanghu Tower on June 27th. One" Song Dynasty: Su Shi

The black clouds have not yet turned over the ink Covering the mountains, white raindrops jump into the boat.

When the wind comes and blows away, the water under Wanghu Tower is like the sky.

Interpretation:

Dark clouds surge up, like ink splashing down, but a section of mountains is revealed on the horizon, bright and fresh, and the water splashed by the heavy rain is like white beads and gravel, splashing into the boat . Suddenly, a strong wind swept over the ground, blowing away the dark clouds in the sky, and the water of the West Lake was as clear as a mirror, bright and gentle.

Creative background:

In the fifth year of Xining (1072) in the Northern Song Dynasty, the author served as a judge in Hangzhou. On June 27 of this year, he visited the West Lake and saw the wonderful scenery of the lake and mountains on the boat. He then went to drink at the Lake View Tower and wrote five quatrains.

Appreciation:

The poet Su Shi was first in the boat and then at the top of the building, quickly capturing the dramatic changes in the natural scenery on the lake: clouds, rain, wind, and clear skies. The writing contains far and near, movement and stillness, sounds and colors, scenes and emotions, which makes people feel like they are actually there - as if they are experiencing a sudden shower in the middle of the lake. Then we came to Wanghu Tower to enjoy the beautiful scenery of water and sky.

The poem uses "turning ink" to describe the coming of clouds, and uses "jumping beads" to describe the characteristics of rain, indicating that it is a shower rather than a long rain. "Uncovered mountains" is a scene that only occurs when it rains; "Sweeping wind" explains the reason why the rain passes quickly. They are both described truthfully, but they are interspersed in the first and third sentences, echoing each other and setting off well.

Finally, "water is like the sky" is used to write the end of a shower, which is full of leisurely and endless emotions. In the sentence, "white rain" and "black clouds" are used to contrast, "water is like the sky" and "turbulent wind" are used to contrast, and "chaos into the boat" is compared with "uncovered mountains", all of which show the author's intention in conceiving.
