Formerly known as Wu, he was born in Heishanwei Village, Changde County, Hunan Province. 1937 joined China * * * Production Party, 1938 studied at North China United University, and worked as a reporter in the news agency of Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei Border Region after graduation. 1940 transferred to laizhuo county in the west, and successively served as propaganda Committee member, director, political commissar and district party secretary of the county youth rescue association.
