"Reading on an autumn night is marked by two drums" The poem "Jie" was written in the autumn of the first year of Qiandao (1165) when he first took office as the general magistrate of Longxing (the seat of governance is now Nanchang, Jiangxi). Lu You was forty-one years old at that time. Appreciation of reading at the end of two drums every autumn night
Part One
The first couplet laments that he is a "rotten Confucian" who is "mediocre" and only likes to have the ancient people's suicide notes to read. , is the origin of night reading, and the poetry is mediocre; it is related to Lu You's life ambitions and ambitions, but the connotation is not simple. In his early years, Lu You had great ambitions to serve the country. He was unwilling to think of himself as a "corrupt Confucian" and instead thought of himself as a "genius". He called himself a "corrupt Confucian" and "Tan Wuqi", both of which included "I will not allow the world to accept it, and I will not accept it from the world" - that is, he was in power. If you don't know, you won't be rewarded. "I only like the posthumous compilation and do not deceive myself", which means disdain to live in the world, but to adhere to the ideal of "helping the world" derived from the "general compilation"; it is consistent with the "the original intention of reading" in "Study" written when he was fifty-two. "Yuan Yuan (referring to the people)", "Wu Geng Shu Shi Zi" written when he was sixty-seven years old, "In his later years, books become more interesting, and Xin Wei is clearly visible in his eyes (referring to Yi Yin and Lu Shang's contribution to the world)", "Ten thousand bells and one grade are not expensive, but when the time comes, Su Yuanyuan will take action." Su Yuanyuan wrote in "Dushu" when he was seventy-three years old. "My eyes want to read books all over the world, but my strength is not enough but my ambition is more than enough. I have been pursuing saints for thousands of years, but I am generous and confident. Ning Tuyu ”, “Winter Night Reading to Revelation to Ziyu” written when he was seventy-five years old, “Although the Holy Master has left behind his sutras far away, old examples will still remain for all ages. His head is white and his heart of self-pity has not died, and the night window is full of thunder and lightning, and the light is green”, 8 "Studying in the Bureau Yu Yuxuan" written when he was eleven years old, "Enduring Hunger and Talking about the Yu and Tang Dynasties (referring to Yao and Shun's way of governing the country)", "The ancient saying (referring to the Confucian theory and thought of "helping the world") don't deceive me", 8 The story is self-evident when you read the sentence in "Study" written when he was fifteen, "When I was young, my teachers and friends taught me about Tang Yu, and my white hair and lapel ring were very comfortable. It used to be said that everyone should pay for the wine, but now I know that no one should believe my book."
The second couplet is written indoors and read at night, which are the two most exciting lines of the poem. Lu You was still proud of his sharp eyesight and strong teeth when he was old, but some white hairs may have appeared on his head. Therefore, before forty years ago, he had already talked about "white hairs", and the sentence here also said that "white hairs ruthlessly invade the old state." This sentence seems unremarkable in isolation; but when compared with the following sentence, it forms a beautiful artistic conception: People with "white hair" approaching the "old state" read in front of the "green lantern" at night, and still feel full of meaning, just like reading as a child. Same. "White hair", "Green Lantern", "Ruthless", "Tasteful", "Lao Jing" and "Childhood" all complement each other and are evocative. Anyone who has been eager to learn since childhood and finds reading interesting (this is the key), and who is still eager to learn when he is old, will feel warm and fascinated after reading this couplet, and will be immersed in the night reading scene described by the poet. This couplet, together with the later one in "Sitting on a Windy Night", "The old things come to my eyes on pillows, hiding the lingering taste of books in my chest", can best touch the old love and the taste of books in the middle-aged and elderly people's chests, and make them feel unspeakable. The situation and emotion are written "as if they are now". "Reading on a Winter Night" written by the poet when he was sixty-three years old: "After eating, it is tasteless, and a window is more than wide. I am looking for the dream of the boss again, but I am reading a short book." "Self-encouragement" written when he was seventy-seven years old Sentences such as "Studying is like self-reliance, loving the sun is like childhood" can be combined with this to prove it.
The third couplet writes about the autumn night from outside. There is a "chill" in the sound of the falling leaves of "Gaowu"; the repeated beating of the drum signals the second watch, and I have official duties tomorrow. Although I am still very excited about reading, my "sleep" cannot be postponed. Cece, Dongdong, the sound reaches the ears; late at night in autumn, the scene is lifelike. The fourth couplet concludes by writing about eating before going to bed. Reading despite hunger, a cup of potato porridge cooked with yam is better than "qiongmi". From the eating situation, the author's poverty-stricken life and feelings of being content with poverty, happy with morality, and eager to learn are expressed. In "Reading Till Night and Feeling Rich" written when he was eighty-four, the sentence "The old man's worldly thoughts have faded, but his love for ancient books has not changed. The fragments of broken monuments are still in the coffin, and he always plays with them and forgets his hunger." and other lines can be seen even more clearly. This kind of life and feelings of his are carried through to the end. The writing style of these two couplets is light, but the artistic conception is not thin.
Second
The first couplet of this poem is about the origin of night reading. Although the writing is flat, it expresses the author's ideal ambition to help the world. The chin couplet says that old people are full of interest in reading, which is very cordial. The neck couplet shows that the poet often read in autumn nights until the "Two Drums" time, and still couldn't bear to put down the scroll. What is particularly touching is the winter night, when the ice and snow outside the window are freezing and the poet is in high spirits indoors. The last couplet ends with eating before going to bed, expressing the author's hard life and tireless love of learning.
Lu You said that he wrote "ten thousand poems in sixty years", but the first couplet of the poem starts with "the rotten scholar sighs that nothing is surprising", which is very meaningful. Because he once had such a poem in "Send a Sword with Pine Patterns from Rongzhou", "It's a shame to be a rotten scholar and grow up." Now that he can call himself a "corrupt scholar", it seems to go against the high aspirations he had in his early years. Based on Lu You's situation at that time, when he first became the general magistrate of Longxing, he was lonely and unhappy. He could only use reading to relieve the depression in his heart, so he came up with the idea of ??"Duxi Yibian, Don't Bully Me". Therefore, going back and appreciating "Duxi Yibian" still reflects his always positive outlook on the world. Because Lu You read to "help the world and save the people", as evidenced by his poem "The original intention of reading is Yuanyuan (referring to the people)".
The "white hair" in the couplet brings out the decadence of the old age, but under the "green lantern", it has a different meaning. A philosopher once said, "Books are food for young people, they make old people happy." Therefore, reading as a child was enjoyable. Lu You, who was born early, is now accompanied by Qing Deng, as if he has returned to his childhood, enjoying the joy of reading. This couplet is written for indoor night reading. It is clear and simple, concise and natural, friendly and interesting. They are the two most wonderful sentences in the whole poem.
The neck couplet depicts the autumn night outdoors. The sound of "cece" as the autumn wind blows down the leaves of the sycamore tree comes from outside the window, and the sound of "dongdong" sounds from the drum to announce the second watch, urging the poet to take a rest. The poet vividly reproduces the scene at that time, making people feel immersed in it.
The last couplet describes the scene of the poet eating before falling asleep. The poet who concentrated on reading felt a little hungry, so he cooked potato porridge made from yam, thinking it was better than fine wine, so a poet who was content with poverty, happy with teaching, and diligent in learning emerged.
