1. Shakespeare's "Sonnet 18"
Sonnet 18
Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance or nature's changing course untrimm'd
But thy eternal summer shall not fade
Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest;
Nor shall Death brag thou wander 'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou growest:
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this and this gives life to thee.
Can I compare you to summer?
You are more beautiful and gentle than summer.
The strong wind withers the buds of May,
How short the stay of summer is.
Don’t miss that beautiful sun in the sky,
It will be cloudy and misty in a blink of an eye.
Stop sighing at the scattered flowers,
hurt by the impermanence of destiny.
Only your eternal summer is renewed,
your beauty remains intact.
Death has no chance to imprison you,
You will live forever in my eternal poetry.
As long as there are people in the world who recite my poems,
this poem will be immortal and keep your beauty forever.
2. "When You Are Old" (Yeats)
When you are old --- William Butler Yeats
When you are old and gray and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once , and of their shadows deep;
How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true,
But one man loved the pilgrim Soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face;
And bending down beside the glowing bars,
Murmur, a little sadly , how Love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead
And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.
When you are old and gray, When you feel sleepy,
If you are taking a nap by the fire, please take down this poem,
Read it slowly, recalling the softness of your eyes in the past,
Recall their past Thick shadow;
How many people love you when you are young and happy,
Adore your beauty, pretense or sincerely,
Only one person loves you on that pilgrimage The soul of the reader,
Love the painful wrinkles on your aging face;
Hang your head, beside the red-lit stove,
Sadly Telling softly of the passing of love,
It paces slowly on the mountains above,
hiding its face among a group of stars.
3. "I like you to be silent" (Neruda)
I like you to be silent, as if you disappeared,
You Hear me from afar, but my voice cannot reach you.
It seems like your eyes have flown away, like a kiss sealing your mouth.
As all things fill my soul,
You emerge from all things and fill my soul.
You are like my soul, a dream butterfly. You are like the word melancholy.
I like that you are silent, as if you are far away.
You sound like you are lamenting, a butterfly moaning like a dove.
You hear me from afar, my voice cannot reach you:
Let me be silent in your silence.
And let me talk to you through your silence,
Your silence is as bright as a lamp, as simple as a ring,
You are like the night, possessing loneliness With the stars.
Your silence is the silence of the stars, distant and bright.
I like you to be silent, as if you have disappeared,
Distant and sad, as if you are dead.
At that time, one word and one smile were enough.
And I will feel happy, happy because it is not true.
