Rossetti English Poetry

Three Shadows

Dante Grabriel Rossetti

I looked and saw your eyes

In the shadow of your hair

< p>As a traveler sees the stream

In the shadow of the wood;

And I said: "my faint heart sight

Ah me! to linger there,

To drink deep and to dream

In that sweet solitude."

I looked and saw your heart

In the shadow of your eyes,

As a seeker sees the gold

In the shadow of the stream;

And I said, "Ah me! what art< /p>

Should win the immortal prize,

Whose want must make life cold

And Heaven a hollow dream?"

I looked and saw your love

In the shadow of your heart,

As a diver sees the pearl

In the shadow of the sea;

And I murmured, not above

My breath, but all apart, -

"Ah! you can love, true girl,

And is your love for me?"

Triple Shadow

Dante Gabriel Rossetti

In the shadow of your hair I see your eyes,

Like a traveler seeing a clear stream in the shadow of trees;

I said, "Ah! my weak heart groans to stop,"

And drink in that sweet silence, and fall into sleep.”

In the shadows of your eyes I see your soul,

As a gold digger sees in the shadows of a stream. Brilliant gold;

I said, "Hey! What skills can win this unworthy prize?

The lack of it will definitely make life cold and heaven as desolate as a dream.

"

I see your love in the shadow of your heart,

Like a diver who sees pearls in the shadow of the sea;

I murmur He murmured, not loudly, but still far away -

"Ah! A sincere girl, you can love, but you can’t love me? ”
