Poetics of Wandering Poets

First, poetry

A loving mother makes clothes for her long-distance son with a needle and thread in her hand.

Before leaving, he sewed a needle tightly for fear that his son would come back late and his clothes would be damaged.

Who can say that a child's filial piety as weak as grass can repay the kindness of such a loving mother as Chunhui Puze?

Second, the original text

The mother used the needle and thread in her hand to make clothes for her long-distance son.

Before leaving, I had a stitch for fear that my son would come back late and his clothes would be damaged.

Who can say that a filial child like the weak can repay his mother's love like the sunshine in spring?

First, the creative background

Ode to a Wandering Son was written in Liyang (now Jiangsu). Under the title of this poem, Meng Jiao made a note: "Mu Ying Li Shangzuo." Meng Jiao drifted in his early years and was poor all his life. Until he was fifty years old, he got a humble position as a county commandant in Liyang, and ended his years of wandering life. He lived with his mother.

The poet's career was frustrated and he experienced the indifference of the world. At this time, he felt the value of his family more and more, so he wrote this heartfelt and touching poem praising his mother.

Second, appreciate

The first two sentences, "thread in the hand of a kind-hearted mother makes clothes for her wayward son's body", are actually two phrases, not two sentences. In this way, from people to things, "loving mother" and "wandering son" are closely linked with "thread" and "clothes", which are very common and common things, and the love of flesh and blood between mother and child is written.

Then there are two sentences, "She mended carefully and thoroughly, fearing that it would delay his time to go home." He wrote about people's behaviors and attitudes and focused his pen and ink on his loving mother. Here, the affection between mother and son is deepened through the action and psychological depiction of loving mother rushing out clothes for homeless people. At this moment before leaving, my mother sewed thousands of stitches "densely" because she was afraid that her son would "delay" and it would be difficult to return.

The affection of loving mother is naturally revealed through the details of daily life. Simple and natural, kind and touching. There are neither words nor tears here, but a feeling of pure love overflows from this common scene.

The first four sentences are very simple, without any modification, but the image of loving mother is really touching. The last two sentences are the sublimation of the first four sentences. By virtue of the intuition of the parties, the next meaning is excavated: "But how much affection there is in an inch of grass, I got three chunhui." The author speaks freely and eulogizes maternal love enthusiastically.

These two sentences adopt the traditional contrast method: children are like grass, and maternal love is like spring sunshine. If a child can't repay his mother's love. The contrast and metaphor of images have placed Junzi's ardent feelings for his loving mother.
