[Italy] Torquado Tasso "I Love You Just Because You Are Beautiful" Love Poetry Appreciation
[Italy] Torquado Tasso
I love you just because you are beautiful,
And my stars also have the same wish.
I have no desire for you, my dear,
I only hope that you will bring me pain.
If sometimes you show pity to my eyes
I want nothing more from you,
only that Crying endlessly.
It’s not because you heard me sighing,
that I pour out my heart to you,
I don’t have any hope for you. ,
Some may just be sad.
Let me still love you and look at you,
sigh for you,
because of pain, crying and sorrow,
These are all rewards for my loyalty.

Torquado Tasso (1544-1595) was a famous Italian poet and a representative of the late Italian Renaissance. He began publishing poetry at the age of 18. "Rinaldo" (1562), a long poem describing the knight's achievements in a romantic mood, is his debut work. From 1564 onwards, Tasso became the court poet of the Este family. He has successively created outstanding works such as the pastoral opera "Aminda" and the narrative poem "Jerusalem Liberated". In particular, the latter long poem focuses on describing the victory of love over Christian faith, praising the joyful scenes of life in this world. It is full of rich flavor of life and touching artistic power, and shines with the brilliance of humanistic thought. Tasso also wrote some theoretical works on literature and art, including "On the Art of Poetry" (1567), "On Heroic Epics" (1595) and 26 "Dialogues". Tasso's later years were unfortunate. Due to his dissatisfaction with the court and the church, and the increasing conflicts with the environment, he suffered a mental disorder and spent 7 years in a lunatic asylum. In 1595, he passed away sadly.
As a Renaissance poet, Tasso passionately pursued worldly love and sensual happiness, and yearned infinitely for a better life. Because of this, his love poems are sincere, euphemistic and touching. "I love you, just because you are beautiful" is very representative of his style.
People bury a plant seed and look forward to the autumn harvest. And when people plant the seeds of love, sometimes what they look forward to is not necessarily the golden autumn. The winner in love can be intoxicated in the harvest fields. Those who are frustrated in love can only cry among the desolate fallen leaves. Some people become depressed and cynical after falling out of love. Although some people are frustrated, they have not given up their loyalty to love. Because love is not about asking, but to a large extent it means dedication and giving. Tasso's poem expresses such thoughts and feelings of remaining loyal to love after a broken love.
There are four stanzas in the whole poem. The first verse is a celebration of love. The poet wrote: "I love you just because you are beautiful, / and my stars also have the same wish." One sentence expresses the sincerity and purity of this love. He only loves the beauty of his sweetheart, "only hopes that you will bring me pain", and "has no desire for my dear person". The sincerity of being willing to suffer for the sake of pure love can be imagined. The second section is about the pursuit of love. The poet expresses this emotion vividly through "eyes", "love" and "cry". In this verse, the author continues the idea of ??"coveting for nothing" in the previous verse, only asking his sweetheart to "show pity to my eyes/," "just hope to cry endlessly" and "nothing else." . She would rather shed tears in exchange for her lover's mercy. The intensity of her pursuit is obvious. The third section is about the pain of love. Because the pursuit leads to nothing, because the longing comes to nothing, pain and sadness come to mind. Therefore, from "coveting for nothing" to "asking for nothing else", and from "asking for nothing else" to "having no hope", what is left "maybe just sadness." It is not difficult to imagine the pain of his lovelorn. . The last section is about the loyalty of love. Although love has become in vain, although the glory of love has disappeared, although this love only brings pain and sorrow, "I still love you" and will always cherish this love. Because "I" love is worthy, because "I" have paid "loyal reward" for this love with "pain, crying and sorrow".
After reading this poem with a low tone and a somewhat depressing atmosphere, rather than listening to the cry of a lovelorn person, it is better to experience the poet's own thoughts, feelings and inner pain. Because he has integrated his pursuit and troubles into his works without leaving any trace.
