Zhao Shixiu (A.D. 1 170- A.D. 12 19), a poet in the Song Dynasty, was born in Yongjia (now Wenzhou, Zhejiang). He and Xu Qian are also called "Yongjia Four Spirits" and "Yongjia Four Spirits". Two volumes of Zhao Shixiu Collection and one volume of Tianletang Collection have been lost. Only Qingyuan Zhai Ji has been handed down from generation to generation.

The poet invited his friends to his house, but he didn't wait for them until midnight. The friend didn't come, and the poem did come. So the poet began to write this poem. The beginning of the poem explains the season and environment: in Huangmei season, the rain keeps falling, and frogs are everywhere in ponds and grass. The sound of falling rain and lively frogs just set off the tranquility of early summer nights. The host waited patiently for the arrival of the guests. He had nothing to do, but he arranged his own chess game. The master's elegant taste and quiet and leisurely manner are all on the paper. The poet ended the poem with snuff, which not only rendered the waiting time, but also reflected that the poet had been immersed in the chess game. The lush green grass, the red snuff, the ticking rain and the lively wow sound constitute a colorful, quiet and harmonious summer night picture scroll. Although friends did not arrive as scheduled, during this period, the poet enjoyed the beauty of solitude and the pleasure brought by poetry. The poet didn't explain why his friend stood me up and whether he came later, but left his rich imagination to the readers. The language of the whole poem is plain and natural, with a strong flavor of life, catchy to read and far-reaching artistic conception.
