"Nanxiangzi Suzhou Shangyuan" (Su Shi) original text and translation

Nanxiangzi·Suzhou Shangyuan by Su Shi Series: A collection of ancient poems about the Lantern Festival Nanxiangzi·Suzhou Shangyuan Thousands of riders try out spring outings, and the light rain falls like a crisp. It can make old guests return to Jiangdong and stay late. Liquor silently purges oil. The planet is in chaos with flying fire, and the green waves are about to flow. It's not as cold as Baiyun Township, but gentle. This is the first state in Huainan. Appreciation: This is a small order by the author describing the prosperous scene he saw during the Lantern Festival in Suzhou (now part of Anhui). The first two sentences of the first film describe people in Suzhou taking a spring outing in the rain during the festival. In the misty spring rain, people rode horses and cars to the countryside to enjoy the spring scenery. "Thousands of horses" refers to the large number of people and horses. "Try" means trying and starting. This means that in early spring, it is suddenly warm and then cold. But people who had been hibernating all winter couldn't hold back their joy at the festival, so they rushed to travel in this early spring. The word "collection" in the second sentence "The light rain will stop like a crisp" is very expressive. Once light rain is sprinkled on the dry land, it will be absorbed immediately. The word "collect" brings the still life (land) to life. At the same time, "Light rain is like crisp", you can imagine the softness and subtleness of spring rain. The last three sentences in the film are the author's feelings. The tourists are like clouds and the light rain is like crisp, which makes people feel ecstasy. In addition, there is also clear and delicious wine for the author to drink happily. This scene can't help but make people linger. "Jiangdong returns to the old guest" is probably an allusion to Fan Li's abandonment of his official position and his return to seclusion. The author uses this to describe himself, implying that the author is tired of his official career and yearns for the peaceful scenery of the world. The next film is about the Lantern Festival night scene in Suzhou. "The planet is in chaos with flying fire, and the green waves are about to flow." The two sentences describe the two landscapes of the sky and the earth. Looking up at the sky, artillery and fireworks rise into the sky, like clusters of planets advancing one after another. The word "chaos" points out the bright and dizzying lively scene. Looking at the ground again, the green mountains are like dark green (the green mountains are like a light green thrush), and the spring water is rippling. The green color of the mountains and rivers makes people feel like they are about to slide down. "Greenery flows" is an aesthetic association of the author. The following three sentences are lyrical. The two sentences "not as cold as Baiyun Township, but gentle" are a perfect statement that the beautiful spring scenery of Shangyuan in Suzhou is better than the fairyland, and it is warmer and more pleasant than the place where the gods live. "Baiyun Township" is an allusion. "Zhuangzi·Heaven and Earth": "Ride on the white clouds and reach the imperial hometown." "Huainan" is the name of a road, the name of a road (the name of an administrative region in the Song Dynasty), one of the fifteen roads in the Song Dynasty, and the seat of governance is Yangzhou, which is now Anhui. "The first state" is the Ibusuki state. These last few sentences may appear to be praising Suzhou, but they actually have a double meaning. "Baiyun Township" also alludes to the place where the imperial court is located. This reveals the author's sadness about being excluded and left out in the government. The words here and the meaning there are profound.
