Dream on Mount Tianmu was written by Li Bai, a great poet in the Tang Dynasty.
Excerpt from the original:
A sailing tourist will talk about Japan, which is hidden in water and fog and inaccessible; But the more people talk about the mother mountain, the clouds are light or visible.
On a straight line leading to heaven, its peak enters heaven, topped with five sacred peaks, and casts a shadow across China. The Paradise Terrace Mountains are 100 miles long, and it is here that they begin to extend to the southeast.
Translation:
It is difficult for overseas tourists to find a wave of smoke when they talk about Yingzhou. When Vietnamese talk about Tianmu Mountain, some people can see it in the fog.
Tianmu Mountain seems to be connected with the sky, blocking the sky. The mountain is higher than the five mountains, covering Chicheng Mountain. Although Tiantai Mountain is 18000 feet high, it seems to lean to the southeast and crawl in front of it.
This is a dream poem as well as a fairy poem. On the grounds of remembering dreams, this poem expresses the desire for light and freedom, the dissatisfaction with the dark reality, and the indomitable spirit of resistance. The poet uses rich and peculiar imagination and bold exaggeration to form a sleepwalking picture that is both virtual and real, and the virtual and the real coexist.
The whole poem is rigorous in conception, magnificent in artistic conception, rich in twists and turns, brilliant in image, deep and intense in emotion and full of romanticism. Its form is mixed with miscellaneous words, and it also uses Sao style. It is not bound by statutes, and its pen is free from the system, which is called peerless masterpiece.
The ideological content of this poem is quite complicated. After Li Bai left Chang 'an, he suffered political setbacks and was depressed and resentful mentally. There is no way out in the real society, but we can only seek liberation from the illusory celestial world and the mountains far away from the secular world.
This kind of seclusion thought seems to be depressed, but it can't be erased. To some extent, it shows that Li Bai has got rid of the bondage of the secular in spirit. This made him send out "Oh, how can I seriously bow and scrape to those high-ranking people, who will never be seen with a sincere face" at the end of the poem. This uncompromising spirit and strong resistance are the keynote of this poem.
Creation background: This poem was written after Li Bai left the Hanlin, and the writing years were four years (745) and five years (746) respectively.
In the third year of Tianbao reign of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty (744), Li Bai was pushed out by powerful people in Chang 'an, released from Beijing and returned to his hometown in Donglu (now Shandong). Then set foot on the journey of roaming again. This poem describing the dream trip of Tianmu Mountain was written when Li Bai was about to leave eastern Shandong for wuyue.
About the author: Li Bai (70 1-762), whose real name is Taibai, is called Qinglian layman. He is the most unique and greatest romantic poet after Qu Yuan. He has the reputation of "poetic immortal" and is also called "Du Li" with Du Fu. His poems are mainly lyrical, showing the arrogant spirit of contempt for powerful people, expressing sympathy for people's sufferings, being good at depicting natural scenery and expressing his love for the mountains and rivers of the motherland.
The poetic style is magnificent and bold, the imagination is rich, the language flows naturally, the melody is harmonious and changeable, and it is good at absorbing nutrients and materials from folk literature and myths and legends, which constitutes its unique magnificent and gorgeous color and reaches the peak of poetic art in the prosperous Tang Dynasty.
