The pioneer of classical romantic poetry has been forgotten by the world for nearly a century. Graduated from the Theological School of the University of Tübingen. Worked as a tutor and fell in love with his employer's wife.
The novel "Hippoline" (1797~1799) was created with her as a model. After 1798, he was frustrated in love, exhausted physically and mentally, and was in a state of schizophrenia. In 1802, he returned to his hometown on foot. In 1804 he became a librarian in Homburg. From 1807 onwards, he became completely insane and unable to take care of himself. His works include the poems "Ode to Freedom", "Ode to Humanity", "To the Germans", "Die for the Motherland", etc.
