Wonderful speech at the annual meeting of prose

I will talk about the standards of good prose in my opinion from three aspects.

1. Infinite concern for the soul in our lives.

Everything is because our life has a soul as well as a body. Some souls are weak and some souls are deep. The differences between people, just like the differences in appearance between people, are hundreds of thousands of miles apart. The differences in appearance between people are obvious and can be seen at a glance, but the differences in soul between people need to be discovered by relying on each other's life energy and spectrum. Just as the human body needs food, the body of the soul needs art, which is why art must be produced. Music, painting, poetry, prose, novels, sculpture, dance, calligraphy … are all arts. At the moment, when we gather in Zibo from all over Shandong, we all have a common preference, that is, we like writing, especially prose and essays. This is also because the same spectrum in our lives attracts us here.

People often say that poetry is the pinnacle of language art, but I don't agree with this view. It is true that poetry has the particularity of mastering language, its own heterogeneity and dedication. But this does not mean that poetry is the jewel in the laurel of language. I have read too many poems written by pseudo-poets and ordinary poets. They are nothing. Those words are vulgar things, iron ore in language. I have met many poets who don't even know the common sense of life. It is often these poets who have serious personality defects in their lives who admire the diamond nature of poetry most. In fact, there is only one diamond on the laurel of language, and that is to see who can control language to nourish our souls. The difference of people's souls determines their demand for artistic photography. Van Gogh's paintings were ignored by many people at that time, because few people could recognize their true profound appearance. A lot of mediocrity is absorbed by many ordinary people, because people with small souls have limited appetite for souls, and the stomach can only absorb spiritual food with mediocre texture. Turn on the TV every day, and it's all mom's TV plays. That's such delicious food. In the age of entertainment to death, the gaudy things of stars have become the protagonists of mass media. This is what the public needs. Food.

However, the really good prose in my mind must be close to, close to and infinitely close to the thirsty soul. Kafka once talked about his words: "I am not interested in words, but I am made of words." I am nothing else and I can't be anything else. " A good prose writer, his life texture is composed of words, and his soul is the protagonist in his life. After simple material needs, all that remains is his thirsty soul. George steiner said in Language and Silence that all great writing originates from "the last desire", from the dazzling light of spirit against death, and from the hope of overcoming time with creativity. In the final analysis, for nature and time, human beings are just a carnivore. Although time and death are too huge behemoths for human beings, they are not comparable in strength. However, artists, including prose writers, should have the fate of facing life directly and fearing the sun, rather than narrowing their eyes instinctively. Is to turn the escalating forces that hit us into our own. Is to turn your soul into a tumbler, and always have the ability to stand firm in the power confrontation of boxers. Failure is doomed, but that failure is a failure to be proud of.

2. Produce personalized words

The poet Han Dong once said that the meaning of poetry is communication, not communication. A really good writer is different from everyone else. A truly excellent work is that the more you write, the more you look like the writer himself. The more you write like yourself, the more meaningful it is. Everyone writes differently and writes differently from others, which is a success. You can use complex language or simple language, mainly depending on whether this thing is in tune with your life rhythm.

Actually, so is prose. The meaning of prose is also communication. Those essays and essays that have been preserved for a long time have communicated with readers because of their classics. They are in tune with the universal life of all beings, so they have produced the song of * * * *.

I usually think that a good prose contains two kinds of quality contents at the same time: one is internal quality, which expresses something close to the soul; One is its language. Language is content. Language itself is content. Those good writers have their own language style, and we usually know that this language belongs to them as soon as we read it. Language has its own taste and temperament. In this sense, language also belongs to the soul.

Reading well takes great risks, which will make our identity and self fragile. Good reading refers to both good ideological quality and good language quality. George steiner once commented on Plath's language: the strong sense of intimacy in her poems constitutes sincere and powerful rhetoric. Yes, Plath harassed our nerves with his unique language and arrogant magnanimity, and made urgent and strong demands, which made readers flinch and be embarrassed by his daily cautious retreat. A unique language has such an ability to scare readers and make their souls tremble with such language.

I don't like the right answer.

This is what Chen xx said. Chen xx also said that he likes things that are a bit misplaced, people with personality, and actions and words that are outside the norms. He is not interested in norms and correct norms. Others think that "how could he do this" is what attracts him. He disdains all the approved and recommended examples. Winning or losing is definitely a utilitarian value. He has no reaction to success, but he is always interested in losers. He doesn't like the right answer. Only the right answer, human beings will not progress, culture will not be interesting, and the sign of high IQ is not the right answer, but the unexpected answer. There is no right or wrong, this is an unexpected answer.

I think what Chen xx said is also suitable for prose. I don't like words that are always right and have answers, and I don't like words that look smooth. I like to think and talk in a dilemma. I like surprises beyond answers.

Zheng xx has always been my favorite singer, and his "Back to Lhasa" is my favorite for more than ten years. Recently, he wrote a song called Left. The lyrics are like this: forgive me/this madness/please help me/before it's too late/before I have the courage/let me do it for the last time/just let me do it ... There is a reason to write this song. Zheng Jun's wife, Liu Yun, once told him about some stars they are familiar with. Women want a divorce, but men don't. The woman said to the man, you can let me do it for the last time while I still have courage. Life is too ordinary. If I do it again, you can help me. Zheng Jun thought it was a poem, so he wrote this song.

I like this story and this song. This is an unexpected story about writing. Life is mediocre, but the soul can't stand still. If my body must live a mediocre life, then my soul must do it once in this world, and words are the organs and food that this soul needs to do. I am willing to let my soul rise and fall in words.

Also, anger or blame, I have been less and less advocating this kind of thing that seems to be tonal everywhere. Singer Zheng xx was once angry, but anger didn't let him know himself, nor did it let him manage the chaotic emotions that most destroy his calm every day. He is very talented, but anger still makes him suffer. He didn't know the futility of anger until he was nearly half a century old. He said he didn't think that only anger could write a good song. Anger is useful if you want to write a song accusing society, but it is useless if you want to write an understanding of this society and life.

Now I just want to listen to the voice of my life day after day and examine my life and emotions. If I can't manage myself well, who am I to be angry outside? Besides, there are many angry people, and we will naturally be angry with others and the outside world. If we can't produce the kind of constructive and revolutionary anger that Sontag has contributed to society and mankind, then I am most qualified to manage my inner ecology.

I am a mediocre writer. He usually writes poetry and prose, and has published three poems and seven essays. My work is far from what I asked for. The more you write and read, the more you know that you only know one thing, that is, nothing, nothing. But I will definitely write it down, because I think, because words are my toys in this world, but I can't live without them, not that they can't live without me. I also want to make my writing better today than yesterday and better tomorrow than today. One thing I don't regret most in my life is that I like poetry and prose.
