Holding an oil-paper umbrella, wandering alone in a long, long and lonely rain lane,
I hope to meet a girl as sad as lilac.
She does have, like the color of lilacs, like the fragrance of lilacs, like the sadness of lilacs,
Sorrow in the rain, sorrow and hesitation; She lingers in this lonely rain lane,
Holding an oil-paper umbrella, like me, like me,
Silently sad, indifferent, sad, melancholy.
She silently approached, approached and took a breath.
She drifted like a dream, like a sad and confused dream.
Like a dream, a lilac floats by my side, and this girl floats by my side;
She walked away silently, walked away, walked towards the crumbling fence and walked through the rainy path.
In the elegy of the rain, her color faded and her fragrance dispersed.
Disappeared, even her sighing eyes and lavender melancholy.
Holding an oil-paper umbrella, wandering alone in a long, long and lonely rain lane,
I hope to float past, a girl with a sad heart like lilac.

Dai Wangshu is a modernist poet, and Rain Lane is his early masterpiece. The poem was written after the failure of the Great Revolution and published in 1928. Dai Wangshu was born well, with a high cultural accomplishment, and also pursued the ideal of progress.
After the failure of the Great Revolution, he looked around at a loss. Dai Wangshu, a young man with high cultural accomplishment, often has a confused mood when facing a major turning point in society. From the angle of artistic creation alone, he appealed his artistic accomplishment and confused mood at that time to poetry, and expressed his painful and helpless mood in a very beautiful lyrical way.
From this poem, we can strongly feel the poet's inner loneliness, hesitation and confusion.
He vividly expressed this emotion by constructing images: holding an oil-paper umbrella, wandering in a lonely, long and confused rain lane. On the way, he met a girl like lilac, with sadness and resentment. (Two people) silently approached and passed by. He watched the girl go to the end of the rain lane and disappear into sight.
The loneliness and length of the rainy lane is an image portrayal of his inner sadness. If he is happy, maybe he will greet a girl happily when he meets her. But he imagined meeting the girl, that is, silently approaching each other and disappearing at the end of the rain lane.
Such a lonely and confused state of mind reflects Dai Wangshu's state of mind as a progressive youth after the failure of the Great Revolution: he can't see a clear future, but he has a complicated and unspeakable sadness, so he expressed it in such a lyrical and imagery way, which strongly touched us, as if he had entered the poet's confused inner world and felt his complicated feelings.
