What kind of image of wild chrysanthemum is depicted in the couplet of "Wild Chrysanthemum" by Yang Wanli

It depicts the noble image of wild chrysanthemums, which are light in color and fragrant. Their fragrance will not be reduced because no one appreciates them, and their inner purity will not be changed by the external environment.

Source: I didn’t get embarrassed by the poets, but followed the popular custom and celebrated the Double Ninth Festival. There is a quiet color in the political field, and there is no one who is willing to add a wonderful fragrance. It was late when we met half way up the mountain, so I was busy plucking a yellow branch. Hua Ying sneered at the Dongli clan, still seeking favor from Tao Weng.

Translation: I will not serve as solid food for literati and poets, and I will not follow the customs and be appreciated by the common people on the Double Ninth Festival. It is precisely because it is more quiet and light in the wild. Who would be willing to cut off their fragrance just because there is no one around? It was already evening, and we met wild chrysanthemums on the green mountainside.

Even if you are in a hurry, you should break a sprig of light yellow wild chrysanthemum. The wild chrysanthemums might sneer at the domesticated chrysanthemums for seeking favor from Tao Yuanming. Extended information

The first half of the poem is written in a style of suppressing first and then rising. The first couplet about Yeju was unknown in the world. It was not adopted by literati to enter the literary world, nor was it loved by the world. The couplet describes both the form and the spirit, vividly describing the beauty, fragrance and character of the wild chrysanthemum.

The poet in the neck couplet saw the beauty and fragrance of wild chrysanthemums during his journey, which made him take a branch to enjoy. The last couplet further expresses its praise by writing about the pride of wild chrysanthemum. This poem is written in a refined, tactful, smooth and innovative way.

Creative background: This poem was written in the first year of Qingyuan (1195) by Emperor Ningzong of the Song Dynasty. In April of that year, the deadline for getting salary was reached. In May, he was summoned to Hangzhou and resigned; in June, he was ordered not to do so, so he resigned again; in August, except for the Huanzhang Pavilion, which was waiting to be made (still a false title), he resigned again. This poem is an expression of ambition in this situation.
