The Interpretation of Village Night

Village Night is a seven-character quatrain written by Bai Juyi, a poet in the Tang Dynasty. This poem depicts a common country night in a simple way. The first two sentences describe the thick autumn colors of the village night, and the last two sentences describe the beautiful scenery of the village night. The poet revealed his lonely feelings through the sadness of autumn night.

Original poem:

Village night

Frost grass and grey insects are cut, and people in the south village go north.

Looking at Noda from the front door alone, buckwheat blossoms like snow in the moonlight.

Translation

In a gray autumn grass beaten by frost, bugs are whispering, and pedestrians around the mountain village are extinct. I came to the front door alone and looked at the field. I saw the bright moon shining on the endless buckwheat fields. The buckwheat flowers on the ground were like a dazzling piece of snow.

Through the different descriptions of the scenery before and after, the poet's emotional changes from loneliness to excitement and complacency are expressed. The poet depicts the night scene of the countryside in a simple way, which contains deep poetry in the fresh and tranquil scenery. The poem describes the village night, which is bleak and desolate, but also spectacular, which constitutes the rural night scene in contrast.

About the author:

Bai Juyi (A.D. 772-846), the word Lotte, was born in Xiaguan, Huazhou (now Weinan, Shaanxi) in his later years. In 8 (in the 16th year of Zhenyuan), he was a scholar, and served as Zuo Shiyi, Doctor Zanshan in the East Palace, Jiangzhou Sima, Hangzhou, Suzhou secretariat and Taifu. Bai Juyi is a great realistic poet.

His poems have a wide range of themes, various forms and plain language. Qin Zhongyin and New Yuefu, written by him, dare to target the abuses of those in power, reflect people's sufferings, and profoundly expose social contradictions. He is also the main advocate of the New Yuefu Movement in the middle Tang Dynasty.

Bai Juyi's narrative poems, such as Song of Eternal Sorrow and Pipa Journey, are exquisite, vivid and touching, with unique artistic style and extremely wide influence. In the theory of poetry creation, he put forward the idea that "articles should be written in time" and "poetry should be written for things". There are more than 3, existing poems, including Bai Changqing Collection.

Extended information:

The characteristics of Bai Juyi's poems are as follows:

1. Theme and concentration of subject matter are one of the artistic characteristics of Bai Juyi's satirical poems.

He usually only chooses the most typical thing, highlights a theme, and the theme is very clear.

2. The artistic features of Bai poetry are also reflected in portraying characters. He can grasp the characteristics of characters and outline vivid characters with the method of line drawing.

If he only uses the phrase "his face is covered with dust and fireworks, and his temples are grey and his fingers are black", a vivid image of an old charcoal man in Cang Sang will pop out. Bai Juyi's satirical poems are mostly narrative poems. When he narrates, he often makes comments and comments on what he said to show his ambition.

3. The combination of narration and argument is another feature of Bai Juyi's satirical poems.

Bai Juyi's language is popular, which is closely related to his simple, clear and popular poetic style.

4. The words in white poetry are simple, and allusions and ancient Austrian words are rarely used. I especially like to refine folk spoken language and common sayings into poetry.

However, the poetry of Bai Shi is not simple. He often uses simple sentences to express irony, which has achieved amazing artistic effects. The poem "Light Fat" describes the spirit of ministers, doctors and generals attending the meeting and the richness of food and wine at the table, but the sentence ends with: "It is a drought in the south of the Yangtze River, and people in Quzhou eat people". What a tragic scene it is!
