Brief introduction of "Cloud Poetry"
During the May 4th Movement, after the new poetry became independent from the old poetry, a small poem movement was formed in the history of new poetry, among which Bing Xin's Stars, Spring Water and Zong Baihua's Walking Clouds had great influence.
Cloud Poetry is a collection of poems written by Zong Baihua during his study in Germany in the 1920s.
When Zong Baihua was editing Deng Xue, the creation of new poems by Guo Moruo and others aroused his interest in new-style poems and tried to create them. 1920, Zong Baihua went to Germany to study. The following year, when he was studying at the University of Berlin, he began to write poems. He often seems to hear some nameless poems reaching his ears, especially in the dead of night. When he is lying in bed and turning off the lights, his poems are often uncontrollable, so he often gets up in the middle of the night, lights candles and creates those new poems by China in the flickering candlelight. These poems are short in length, writing fragments of sudden philosophical thinking, free and lively in content and eclectic in form.
Zong Baihua sent his poems to China one after another and published them in Deng Xue, a literary supplement of Current Affairs News, including the Star River we studied.
1923, Zong Baihua compiled his new poems into an episode, named "Liu Yun", and published 48 books. Later, it was renamed "Cloud Poetry".
The short poems in "Short Poems in the Clouds" are the true feelings of Zong Baihua at that time, expressing his exploration of the universe and life, his love for nature and his yearning for love, full of philosophy.
The language of "Wandering Clouds Poetry" is beautiful and simple, the thought is remote, and the realm is quiet and ethereal. It was a combination of reasoning and lyricism, petite and exquisite, and was welcomed by many readers at that time.
